Use the power control function to automatically control the power switch's on/off and the rebooting processing of a server. The following power control methods can be used for servers.
Not operating power control
Power control is not operated for servers. No setup is required.
Operating power control with a single server
Power control is operated in a unit of a single server.
Operating batch power control
Power control for multiple servers is operated in a batch.
Schedule power on/off for servers using the following procedure.
Procedure
Setting Holidays on the SYSTEM_CALENDAR
Set the days on which server is not operated (server power is not turned on) as holidays on the SYSTEM_CALENDAR. To operate batch power control, set up the server which operates power control. On holidays of the SYSTEM_CALENDAR, the power is turned off at the time defined in the power control schedule (the day change time if not defined).
This operation can be done after the steps 2 to 5 below.
For details, see "2.1 Setting Up the SYSTEM_CALENDAR".
Setting day change time
Set the time of day at which the date changes on Systemwalker Operation Manager. Make sure the day change time is set before setting power control method.
For details, see "2.2 Setting Up Day Change Time".
Setting Power Control Method
Set whether to operate power control for the Systemwalker Operation Manager servers, and if operating, whether to operate power control for a single server or in a batch. To operate batch power control, information on the controlling host and the control target host are also specified.
For details on setting, see "3.2 Power Control Setting".
Setting Power Schedule
Set the power schedule to define the server's power on/off and rebooting. Usual power schedule can be created with "3.3 Power On/Off Scheduling" in "3.3.1 Creating and Applying Standard Patterns". For more complex or specific setting, see "3.3.2 Creating and Applying Non-Standard Patterns" and "3.3.3 Setting Schedules Individually for Specific Days".
Setting Shutdown Monitoring Options
Use the shutdown monitoring options to set the conditions when the system is shut down. For details, see "3.4 Setting Shutdown Monitoring Options".
As soon as you set these options, they become valid. However, if you set them during shutdown monitoring, they become valid the next time power is turned on.
Note
Manual operation
Even if the server's power on/off has been automated, you can manually perform the power on/off or shutdown. In such cases, note the following.
If the server is manually powered (Manual Power On), or a client's logon/login triggers the server's power on before the scheduled power on time, the scheduled power on time is ignored. The server will not be powered off until the scheduled power off time.
When manually shutting down a server (Manual Shutdown), use the Systemwalker Operation Manager's Shut down Server dialog box. If you shut down directly from Windows or UNIX server, the next scheduled power on time becomes invalid and the power will not turn on automatically.
Information
Batch power control
When operating batch power control, all the hosts to be power-controlled are treated as a single logical server. User must specify the host which operates batch power control and the hosts to be power-controlled all together, and set up the SYSTEM_CALENDAR, power control pattern and shutdown monitoring options for the controlling host. Manual operation of server is possible only for the controlling host.
