7.3.4 Setting Threshold Monitoring Information

Define threshold setting information of the target device, and issue an instruction to start monitoring. You can set multiple thresholds setting information on each device.

The threshold setting information includes "Threshold", "Minimum Threshold Monitoring Interval", "Minimum Alarm Tolerance Time", "Alarm Tolerance Level", and "Lower Level". By configuring these five settings in together, you can determine if there are any problems in the performance data.

Threshold

A value to determine whether there is a problem in the performance data.

Minimum Threshold Monitoring Interval

This is the interval for evaluating whether there are any problems in the performance data.
If the performance data exceeds the threshold within the specified interval, the next evaluation starts after alarm is notified. In this case, the interval is taken from the point when the performance data exceeded the threshold.

Minimum Alarm Tolerance Time

Specifies the total time to determine whether the performance data exceeds the threshold within the Minimum Threshold Monitoring Interval.
The thinking behind the total time differs depending on the specification of the Alarm Tolerance Level.

Alarm Tolerance Level

Specifies "Total Time" or "Continuous Time".

  • When "Total Time" is specified

    The total time for the Minimum Alarm Tolerance Time is the total value for all the time in which the performance data exceeds the threshold, during the Minimum Threshold Monitoring Interval.

  • When "Continuous Time" is specified

    The total time for the Minimum Alarm Tolerance Time is the time for which the performance data continuously exceeds the threshold within the Minimum Threshold Monitoring Interval.

Lower Level

When "Total Time" is specified for the Alarm Tolerance Level, the Lower Level can be set.
When the performance data is below this value, the total time for the Minimum Alarm Tolerance Time is reset.

Incidentally, since the threshold monitoring unit is started as a daemon of the Management Server along with the performance management unit, the threshold monitoring unit continues threshold monitoring while the Management Server is active, regardless of the access from Web Console.

Note

  • For the CM load (CPU usage) rate, the ROE usage rate is not monitored.

  • The "Minimum Alarm Tolerance Time" can be specified within a range that is above the monitoring interval and below the Minimum Threshold Monitoring Interval. In addition, the "Minimum Threshold Monitoring Interval" can be specified within a range that is above the "Minimum Alarm Tolerance Time" and below 1440 minutes. For this reason, if the range of monitored volumes is set to "All" to change the monitoring interval automatically, the Alarm Tolerance Time and Threshold Monitoring Interval are also changed automatically. However, the Alarm Tolerance Time cannot be shorter than the initially specified "Minimum Alarm Tolerance Time". In the same way, the Threshold Monitoring Interval cannot be shorter than the "Minimum Threshold Monitoring Interval".

  • When individually setting the threshold for the newly created volume, perform the following procedure:

    1. Record the performance monitoring settings.

      • Settings for recording

        - Monitoring Interval Time

    2. Stop performance monitoring. (If performance monitoring is used).

    3. Start performance monitoring based on the settings recorded in step 1.

      • Settings

        - Range of Monitoring Volume No (Select "All")

        - Monitoring Interval Time

    Refer to "7.2.2 Instruction for Performance Management" and "7.2.3 Setting Monitoring Intervals" for details.

  • To perform a threshold monitoring of newly created RAID groups by creating a RAID group, expanding the capacity of the sub-pools, or expanding the capacity of Thin Provisioning Pools, perform the following procedure:

    • When "All" is specified for the scope of monitoring volumes when starting performance management

      1. Record the threshold monitoring settings.

      2. Stop threshold monitoring.

      3. Start p threshold monitoring based on the settings recorded in step 1.

    • When "Partial" is specified for the scope of monitoring volumes when starting performance management

      Update the configuration information in the performance management function. Refer to "7.2.9 Updating Configuration Information" for details.
