When performing performance management, configure and start the performance management by using Web Console.
In ETERNUS Disk storage systems, enter the minimum and maximum values for the performance information securement target Logical Volume (LUN_V). Setting LogicalVolume can reduce the effect of obtaining performance information on disk areas where performance data is saved and reduce the load. Setting LogicalVolume prevents allocation of more space than necessary for Logical Volume. Consequently, the recommended entry for Logical Volume is the minimum value for obtaining performance data.
Operation by the specification of the scope of monitoring volumes is as follows:
When "All" is selected for the scope of monitoring volumes:
The creation or deletion of volumes is detected and appropriate volumes are included in targets for performance management.
Note
A monitoring interval is automatically changed with the number of volumes by the ETERNUS SF system. However, it is not shorter than the monitoring interval specified when performance management was started. For the relationship between the number of volumes and the monitoring interval, refer to "7.2.3 Setting Monitoring Intervals".
Performance management stops temporarily while changing monitoring interval.
When any volume has been created, it becomes a target volume whose performance information is obtained. Secure the disk space required for the Management Server.
For the ETERNUS Disk storage systems shown below, the volumes existing in those systems when performance management is started are to be monitored. The volumes created or deleted after performance management has been started are not to be monitored.
Device | Firmware Version |
---|---|
ETERNUS DX S2 series (excluding the ETERNUS DX60 S2) | Less than V10L40 |
ETERNUS DX60 S2 | All versions |
When "Partial" is selected for the scope of monitoring volumes:
The volumes in the specified scope are targets for performance management. Even if any volume is created or deleted, it is not included in targets for performance management.
When including any created or deleted volume in targets for performance management, refer to "7.2.9 Updating Configuration Information" to update the configuration information.
In an environment using VMware vSphere Virtual Volumes, even if a VVOL metadata stored FTV, whose volume name is "$VVOL_META", is included in the scope of monitored volumes, it is excluded from performance management. Also when specifying the scope of monitored volumes, the number larger than that of existing volumes cannot be specified except for the VVOL metadata stored FTV.
Information
Since performance information is obtained internally in units of 64 for Logical Volume, performance information in the neighboring area of the Logical Volume setting is also obtained. For example, if a range of 70 to 80 is set for Logical Volume (LUN_V) on the screen, the information of Logical Volume between 64 and 127 is obtained internally. After instructing it to start the performance management, the monitoring range which is displayed on Web Console is not the value specified at the start time but the value converted to units of 64 for Logical Volume.
When threshold monitoring is used, additional information can be displayed in the event messages. Refer to "A.4 perf.conf Parameter" for the setting method.
Point
The maximum transfer rate for the Fibre Channel switch VE port is set as 1 Gbps by default.
If the FCIP trunking function or FCIP data compression function is enabled and a transfer rate of 1 Gbps or more occurs for the VE port, then change the VE port transfer rate.
Refer to "A.9 Explanation of Configuration Settings File" for details on how to set this value.
