7.2.9 Updating Configuration Information

Device configuration information is independently maintained in the performance management function.

Point

  • When "All" is specified for the scope of monitoring volumes when starting performance management, it is not required to change the information on device configuration using the procedure mentioned below. The configuration information is automatically updated at the following timing.

    • When the volume is created or deleted

      If the configuration information must be updated before the volume creation or deletion, perform the Reload Conf. operation for the target device with Web Console. Refer to "7.2.2 Instruction for Performance Management".

    • When the firmware is updated

      Depending on the configuration of the device, the update may take some time to be completed. In addition, the performance information that is displayed may not be correct until the configuration information update is completed. To immediately update to the latest status, update the configuration information with the "Configuration Information Update Procedure (When "All" is selected for the scope of monitoring volumes)" procedure when updating the firmware.

    However, to perform a threshold monitoring of RAID groups created after the performance management is started, it is required to stop and restart threshold monitoring. Refer to "7.3.4 Setting Threshold Monitoring Information" for details.

  • If the scope of monitoring volumes has been changed, set the scope of monitoring volumes according to the change.

To change the device configuration, update the device configuration information that is maintained by the performance management function according to the procedure shown below. Also perform the update if the configuration for a device used to execute performance monitoring and threshold monitoring has been changed.

If the configuration for a device used to execute performance monitoring and threshold monitoring has been changed, the configuration information before the update is used for performance monitoring and threshold monitoring. Performance information and threshold monitoring, shown in the procedure below, cannot be guaranteed prior to the configuration information update.

Configuration Information Update Procedure (When "Partial" is selected for the scope of monitoring volumes)

  1. Record the performance monitoring settings. (if performance monitoring is used).

    <Settings for recording>

    • Scope of monitoring volumes

    • Minimum Monitoring Volume No (only for ETERNUS Disk storage system)

    • Maximum Monitoring Volume No (only for ETERNUS Disk storage system)

    • Monitoring Interval Time

  2. Stop performance monitoring. (if performance monitoring is used.)

    Refer to "7.2.8 Instruction for Stopping Performance Management" for details.

  3. Change the configuration of the supported device.

  4. Start performance monitoring based on the settings recorded in step 1. (if performance monitoring is used).

    <Setting>

    • Scope of monitoring volumes (Select "Partial")

    • Minimum Monitoring Volume No (only for ETERNUS Disk storage system)

    • Maximum Monitoring Volume No (only for ETERNUS Disk storage system)

    • Monitoring Interval Time

    • Create Device Configuration File (Select "Yes")

    Refer to "7.2.2 Instruction for Performance Management" and "7.2.3 Setting Monitoring Intervals" for details.
