Prior Confirmation
Check the following items before retrieving data from an archive.
The state of the existing archives
Confirm that the state of all the archives is "Archived". If there are archives in a different state, refer to "4.3.2 Archive State" and take the necessary actions to change the state to "Archived". One of the archives can be selected to execute the data retrieval process only when all the archives are in the "Archived" state.
The free space of a storage pool for cache and archive operations
Check the free space in the storage pool for cache and archive operations by referring to steps 1 and 4 of "2.4 Allocating the Virtual Disks to a Storage Pool for Cache and Archive Operations".
The free space required to retrieve data from an archive is at least 10%(minimum of 20 GB) of the data amount of the retrieval target archive. If the free space is insufficient, refer to steps 1 and 2 of "6.8 Expanding the Cache Area by Adding Virtual Disks" to expand the capacity of the storage pool for cache and archive operations.
Point
The entire unused area of the storage pool for cache and archive operations is used as a work area to retrieve data
from an archive.
Point
The used datastore capacity is not increased by the amount of data placed in the cloud provider after data is retrieved from the archive. Therefore, data retrieval from the archive does not consume the license capacity.
Note
The time required to complete the retrieval process may range from a few hours to a few dozen hours depending on the archive data amount.
The retrieval process places archive data in the cloud provider. Until the release process of the retrieved data is completed, the storage cost in the cloud provider increases depending on the amount of the retrieved archive data.
When linking with the cloud backup script of ETERNUS SF AdvancedCopy Manager, the script cannot be executed from the start of the archive data retrieval process to the completion of the release process. The cloud backup script terminates with an error when executed during the period.
Procedure of Retrieving Data form an Archive
In CSG Web GUI, click Archive on the global pane.
The Archive list screen is displayed.
Click the radio button for the target archive and then click Retrieve in Action on the right.
The Confirm screen is displayed.
Confirm that the correct archive is displayed and then click Done.
Check the Archive list screen.
Confirm that "Retrieving" is displayed for the status of the target archive and wait until the data retrieval from the archive is completed.
After the initialization process for the retrieval is completed, "Retrieving (xx%)" is displayed for the status to show the progress.
The time required to complete the retrieval process ranges from a few hours to a few dozen hours depending on both the storage class where the archive is saved and the archive data amount. After the retrieval process is completed, the status changes to "Readable".
Note
When archive data is retrieved from the archive storage, latency occurs in the cloud provider, which suspends the progress (between 25% and 50%) by a few hours.
Click Shared Folder on the global pane.
The "Shared folder" screen is displayed.
Confirm that the archived shared folder is displayed.
Mount the archived shared folder and reference the data retrieved from the archive.
Note
When data retrieval from the archive is completed, only the meta data of the data retrieved from the archive is stored in the local disk of this product. The actual data is stored in the cloud storage.
When accessing files in the archived shared folder for the first time, it may take time because data is being transferred from the cloud storage.
See
Refer to "4.3.7 Archived Shared Folder" for details about an archived shared folder.
You can also retrieve data form an archive with the CSG REST API. Refer to "Archive" in the "Reference Guide" for how to retrieve data.
