This chapter explains the registration of resources to resource pools.
For details on the resources that require registration, refer to "Chapter 12 Registering Resources to the Global Pool".
Use the following procedure to register a resource to a resource pool:
Register VM Host Resources
In the ROR console orchestration tree, right-click the target VM pool, and select [Register Resources] from the popup menu.
The [Register Resources] dialog is displayed.
Select the VM host to register.
Click <OK>.
For details, refer to "14.1 VM Host Resources" in the "User's Guide for Infrastructure Administrators (Resource Management) CE".
Note
Register all VM hosts in the resource pool on Citrix XenServer as managed servers on Resource Orchestrator. Register such VM hosts in all VM pools.
Register Storage Resources
Register the virtual storage resources used when creating virtual L-Servers in the resource pool.
For details, refer to "14.5 Storage Resources" in the "User's Guide for Infrastructure Administrators (Resource Management) CE".
When using Thin Provisioning, configure the settings as follows:
When registering an NFS storage repository as a virtual storage resource registered in a storage pool with Thin Provisioning attributes set, the amount of space of virtual storage is calculated as Thin Provisioning.
For how to set Thin Provisioning attributes for a storage pool, refer to "20.2 Creating" in the "User's Guide for Infrastructure Administrators (Resource Management) CE".
For details on the display of available free space of storage pools and the calculation method for free space, refer to "20.6 Viewing" in the "User's Guide for Infrastructure Administrators (Resource Management) CE". Replace "VMware datastore" with "Citrix XenServer storage repository".
Note
When registering a NFS storage repository as a virtual storage resource in a storage pool without Thin Provisioning attributes set, as calculation is performed assuming that the necessary amount of space has been allocated, the amount of available space is less than the actual free space.
When registering a storage repository other than NFS as a virtual storage resource registered in a storage pool with Thin Provisioning attributes set, secure the necessary space, and allocate the disk resources to an L-Server.
Register Network Resources
Register Network Device Resources
Register Address Set Resources
When using Citrix XenServer, it is necessary to register MAC addresses in the address pool. As the management for availability of VM guest MAC addresses is limited (only the uniqueness in resource pools of Citrix XenServer is managed), it is necessary to manage MAC addresses using Resource Orchestrator.
Create templates as virtual cloning images for use in Resource Orchestrator
Create a template with an OS installed. Perform the following procedure:
Create a new VM guest
Install an OS on the VM guest created in step a.
Install XenServerTools
Create a template from the created VM guest
Register Virtual Image Resources
Register the virtual image resources used when creating virtual L-Servers in the resource pool.
For details, refer to "14.7.1 Virtual Image Resources" in the "User's Guide for Infrastructure Administrators (Resource Management) CE".
Point
The information for virtual image resources is obtained from Citrix XenServer Pool Masters registered with Resource Orchestrator. If Pool Masters have not been registered, register the Pool Masters as VM hosts. Wait a couple of minutes and then perform the registration operation again.
When the customization function of the VM guest is used, the following procedures in addition to the above-mentioned procedure are necessary.
Making of storage repository of Citrix XenServer
The Windows shared folder registered in the storage repository and the storage repository of Citrix XenServer that becomes the storage location of the VCD medium is made.
Please refer to "Storage Repository of XenServer" of "C.9.12 Customization function of guest OS" for details.
To use making customization function of the definition file to use the customization function, the following definition files are made.
Guest OS customization definition file
Customizable OS type definition file
Please refer to "C.9.1 Creating Definition Files" for details.
Creating of L-Server
L-Server is made by L-Server making about the relation or the image specification for L-Server.
Installation of customization tool
The customization tool is installed on guest OS of made L-Server.
Please refer to "Introduction and deletion of customization tool" of "C.9.12 Customization function of guest OS" for details of the installation procedure.
The cloning image is gathered for the collection customization
specification of the cloning image for customization.
At this time, the kind of the system of guest OS who specifies it is confirmed according to the following procedures.
Guest OS is logged in.
The kind of the system is confirmed.
