C.9.2 Registering Resources with Resource Orchestrator

This section explains how to register resources with Resource Orchestrator.

When Using Blade Servers

  1. Register VM Hosts as Storage Management Software

Register one of the VM hosts belonging to the pools on Citrix XenServer. It is not necessary to register all VM hosts which belong to the pools.

When registering VM hosts as storage management software, the storage repositories that were created in advance during storage pre-configuration are automatically registered with Resource Orchestrator as virtual storage resources.

Execute the rcxadm storagemgr command to register storage management software.

For details on the rcxadm storagemgr command, refer to "5.17 rcxadm storagemgr" in the "Reference Guide (Command/XML) CE".

  2. Register Chassis

Refer to "5.4.1 Registering Chassis" in the "User's Guide for Infrastructure Administrators (Resource Management) CE".

  3. Register Managed Servers (within Chassis)

When registering managed servers, the storage repositories that were created in advance during pre-setup preparations are automatically registered in Resource Orchestrator as virtual storage resources. When the registered managed server is a Pool Master, the templates created in advance are automatically registered as virtual cloning images by Resource Orchestrator.

For details on how to register managed servers, refer to "5.4.2 Registering Blade Servers" in the "User's Guide for Infrastructure Administrators (Resource Management) CE".

  4. Register LAN Switch Blades

Refer to "5.4.3 Registering LAN Switch Blades" in the "User's Guide for Infrastructure Administrators (Resource Management) CE".

To register a network resource, specify a network pool when creating the network resource.

For details, refer to "Chapter 14 Registering Resources in Resource Pools" in the "User's Guide for Infrastructure Administrators (Resource Management) CE".

When Using a Server other than a Blade Server

  2. Register Managed Servers

For details on how to register managed servers, refer to "5.5.1 Registering Rack Mount or Tower Servers" in the "User's Guide for Infrastructure Administrators (Resource Management) CE".

  3. Register LAN Switches

Refer to "5.13 Registering LAN Switches" in the "User's Guide for Infrastructure Administrators (Resource Management) CE".

To register a network resource, specify a network pool when creating the network resource.

For details, refer to "Chapter 14 Registering Resources in Resource Pools" in the "User's Guide for Infrastructure Administrators (Resource Management) CE".
