Chapter 2 : Setting the Operating Environment | > 2.5 Disk Utility | > 2.5.2 Data Transfer Volume Initialization |
The Disk Utility has an option of initializing a disk displayed on the Tree View as a data transfer volume based on the information of the list view on the right frame.
However, this cannot be performed if the device information displayed on the list view is an item other than the UNIX server () or IA server (
).
Perform the following steps to initialize with the information on the list view.
The initialization information of the disk which has already been initialized is displayed on the list view.
If necessary, use the list view operations to add, change, or delete client systems, server systems, and/or device information to that information.
Since nothing is displayed on the list view, a new client system and server system must be added.
Initialization can also be performed by selecting (highlighting) an initialized disk with similar initialization information on the tree view, copy and paste initialization contents, then making the necessary changes to it.
The following is the copy/paste procedures of the tree view:
Select (highlight) the disk that has similar initialization contents on the tree view.
Copy the initialization contents using one the following operations of the tree view.
Menu Bar | [Tree(T)] - [Copy(C)] |
Toolbar | ![]() |
Tree view popup menu(right click) | [Copy(C)] |
Select (highlight) the disk to be initialized on the tree view.
Perform one of the following tree view operations to paste the copied initialization information.
Menu Bar | [Tree(T)] - [Paste(P)] |
Toolbar | ![]() |
Tree view popup menu(right click) | [Paste(P)] |
The copied initialization information is displayed on the list view of the disk to be initialized.
* Refer to "List View (Right Frame)" regarding list view operations.
After adding, changing, or deleting information on the list view, if selecting (highlighting) another disk without implementing the initialization, a check icon() is displayed for the target disk.
The above check icon disappears once the initialization is completed.
Perform one of the following operations to start the initialization.
However, menu bar, toolbar, and popup operations cannot be performed if the device information displayed in the list view is an item other than the UNIX server () or IA server (
).
Menu Bar | [Tree(T)] - [Initialize(I)] - [Initialize With List View Information(I)] |
Toolbar | ![]() |
Tree view popup menu(right click) | [Initialize(I)] - [Initialize With List View Information(I)] |
When the [Initialization Confirmation] window is displayed, set the following information:
[Number of Partitions]
Select LARGE (16 partitions) or MIDDLE (10 partitions) for the number of partitions of the data transfer volume.
The value to specify varies depending on the size of the disk to use for the data transfer volume and the number of transfers.
Refer to "Supported Disks and Logical Units" for more information.
[Force Initialization]
If the data transfer volume is stuck in the "in use" status due to an event such as a system shutdown during data transfer, specify this to force the execution of the initialization.
When the initialization confirmation message is displayed, double check to see if the correct disk is to be initialized.
If correct, click the [Yes] button.
The initialization process of the data transfer volume starts converting the target disk to a data transfer volume, then the initialization contents are displayed on the list view of the Disk Utility.
