9.3 Upgrading the Storage Server

This section describes how to upgrade the Storage Server.

If tape backup operations are not performed

Perform steps 1 and 5 only if cluster operation is used for Storage Servers.

  1. 9.3.1 Backing up repository data

    Save the repository data. Perform this step from the Storage Management Server.

  2. 9.3.2 Backing up management information

    Save the management information of the environment to a location outside the ACM directory paths before the upgrade.

  3. 9.3.4 Uninstall

    Uninstall the existing version from the Storage Server.

  4. 9.3.5 Install

    Install the new product version, and create the environment.

  5. 9.3.6 Restoring repository data

    Restore the repository data that was backed up. Perform this step from the Storage Management Server.

  6. 9.3.7 Changing server information

    Make the appropriate changes to the server information to ensure data consistency if necessary.

  7. 9.3.8 Restoring management information

    Restore the saved management information.

  8. 9.3.9 Updating the version information

    Update the Storage server version information

If tape backup operations are performed

Perform steps 1, 3, 6 and 10 only if cluster operation is used for Storage Servers.

  1. 9.3.1 Backing up repository data

    Save the repository data. Perform this step from the Storage Management Server.

  2. 9.3.2 Backing up management information

    Save the management information in the environment before the upgrade.

  3. 9.3.3 Backing up tape management information

    Save the tape management information in the environment before the upgrade. Perform this step from the Tape Server.

  4. 9.3.4 Uninstall

    Uninstall the existing product.

  5. 9.3.5 Install

    Install the new product, and create the environment.

  6. 9.3.6 Restoring repository data

    Restore the repository data that was backed up. Perform this step from the Storage Management Server.

  7. 9.3.7 Changing server information

    Make the appropriate changes to the server information to ensure data consistency.

  8. 9.3.8 Restoring management information

    Restore the management information that was backed up.

  9. 9.3.9 Updating the version information

    Update the Storage server version information

  10. 9.3.10 Restoring tape management information

    Restore the tape management information that was backed up. Perform this step from the Tape Server.

Notes for Upgrading:

  • Changing server information during an upgrade:

    If the server name, IP address, or port number of the Storage Management Server must be changed during the upgrade, make the change after completing the upgrade using the above procedure. Refer to "Changing the Operating Environment" in the "ETERNUS SF AdvancedCopy Manager Operator's Guide" for details on how to make the change.

  • Upgrading a volume that is used for backup operations with LVM (Logical Volume Manager)

    • AIX version
      When the system is rebooted during the process of installing the Storage server upgrade, the status of the volume which is used in the copy destination, changes from [enabled] to [defined], however, the volume might be detected as another new device.

      The following two options can be taken:

      • If a reboot has taken place, do the following:

        Refer to "Restarting the server after backup or replication" in"10.1.1. General Notes" in the "ETERNUS SF AdvancedCopy Manager Operator's Guide."

      • Before starting the upgrade, do the following:

        For backup volume, refer to "Procedure for mounting a backup volume" in "10.1.4 Notes on restoration" in the"ETERNUS SF AdvancedCopy Manager Operator's Guide" (AIX).
