3.2.4 System Log/Event Log

• System Log
  A system log is a logging file in the Solaris or Linux operating system. This file outputs all the events from both application and operating system.

  The Shunsaku error message is also output in this file.

• Event Log
  An event log is a service for monitoring and collecting information of the hardware and software in the Windows operating system.
  This file will output all the events from both application and operating system.

  The Shunsaku error message is also output in this file.

Collecting System Log/Event Log

Collect the system log/event log from all servers.

• System Log

  

  /var/adm/messages file

  
  

  

  /var/log/messages file

  Collect all the generations (messages.*) of the system log.

• Event Log

  Follow the procedure below to collect the event log.

  1. From the [Start] button, click [Settings]-[Control Panel].
  2. Double click on [Administrative Tools]
  3. Double click on [Event Viewer]
  4. Move the cursor to [Application Log] and click at it. Then, select "Save Log File As..." on the [Action] menu.
  5. Input the save destination and the file name at the save windows. Then, select [Text] or [CSV] for the file type.

  Use a text editor or Excel for the reference of the file above.
