4.6 ETERNUS VS850 S3 Virtualization Storage

This product supports fault management for the ETERNUS VS850 S3. Refer to "5.2.7 Registering Manually Embedded Device" and register the device.

  1. Connecting to the network

At the device, perform the network connection settings to connect to the network. Refer to the manuals of the device for details on how to perform it.

  2. Cluster Name settings

The Management Server uses the Cluster Name set at the device to specify the device. Therefore, the Cluster Name set at the device must be unique amongst all sites, including remote sites. When registering the device at the Management Server, enter the Cluster Name as the device name.

  3. SNMP Trap setting

Perform the setup of the SNMP Trap transmission destination for the device so that SNMP Traps of the device can be transmitted to the Management Server. If the Management Server is operated in a cluster configuration, set the logical IP address of the cluster as the destination.

  4. Management software linkage

Use the management software to check device status details and to enter settings, including volume virtualization settings. The management software is called directly from Web Console. In advance, setup the following address as the management software on Web Console. The svcConsoleIp is the IP address of the server where the management software is executed.

Note

  • The ETERNUS VS850 S3 is handled as a server node by the Management Server. To perform access path operations, treat the ETERNUS VS850 S3 fibre channel port as a server node HBA port.

  • The ETERNUS VS850 S3 is registered at the Management Server as a cluster unit comprised of device nodes. Set the logical IP address of the cluster containing device nodes as the IP address to be registered at the Management Server.

  • If the IP address is not registered during device registration, the device cannot be polled for fault monitoring. Ensure that the IP address is registered.

  • If the Cluster Name set at the device and the device name registered at the Management Server are different, fault monitoring using SNMP Traps cannot be performed. Ensure that the device name and the Cluster Name are the same.
