8.3.3 After Remotely Powering Down the Client, "Active Desktop Repair" Starts when the Client Starts

Applicable versions and levels

Action

Points to check

Was Active Desktop enabled?

Cause

If the /ef (forced power off) parameter was specified in the poffcli command and the client is then powered down remotely, applications running on the operating system of the client will be canceled. Note that Active Desktop is enabled, that operating system application would have been running when Cancel was performed, and will cause the Automatic Repair function to run during startup.

Action method

If you do not want Automatic Repair to run when the client is powered on remotely, disable Active Desktop before executing the poffcli command to power off the client.

The methods used to disable Active Desktop are shown below.

The method varies depending on the operating system, so use the appropriate one. The following example is for Windows(R) 2000.

[Windows(R) 2000]

  1. Select Control Panel >> Folder Options.

  2. In Active Desktop of the General tab, select Use Windows classic desktop.
