This section describes how to create a new database for a Systemwalker Desktop Keeper Management Server/Master Management Server.
Database includes the operation database for saving operation information (management information and operation log information) and the log viewing database for migrating and viewing the previous operation logs.
It is required to construct the operation database. Please construct the log viewing database according to need.
When the database information used in the old version is used directly in V14.2.0, please refer to “Chapter 4 Version Upgrade”.
Data saved in database will not be automatically deleted. Backup of data should be deleted regularly.
In addition, in order to prevent database insufficiency, please perform notification setting when the database space is insufficient. For notification settings when database is insufficient, please refer to “2.2.5.8 Set Administrator Notification ”.
Note
When constructing database, there are following restrictions and notes
Please do not set compression or encryption for the drive and the folder to construct database.
Please exclude the folder to construct database from the target of virus scan software.
For the logon user name of Windows, please specify alphanumeric characters beginning with a letter and with no more than 18 characters, with the Administrator authority.
Please do not delete the Windows logon user when the database environment has been constructed. When deleting the database environment, migrating database environment and restoring management information and log data, the Windows logon user used for constructing the database environment is required.
Please confirm the maximum log size of event viewer (application log) and the settings of operation when the maximum is reached in advance so that the new event log can be recorded without any problems. Database construction may be interrupted if no event log is recorded.
Items to be confirmed before database construction
Please use the following ports to access database in Management Server/Master Management Server:
Operation database: 10011
If the above-mentioned port number has been used, before constructing the operation database, please refer to the “Port Number List” in the “Systemwalker Desktop Keeper Reference Manual” to change the environment of Systemwalker Desktop Keeper.
Log viewing database: 10050
When the above-mentioned port number has been used, before constructing the log viewing database, please refer to the “Port Number List” in the “Systemwalker Desktop Keeper Reference Manual” to change the environment of Systemwalker Desktop Keeper.
About the standard of database construction time
The time to construct the database will vary based on the capacity of that database. The standard of creation time is as follows:
When the capacity of the database is about 250GB (Xeon 2.0GHz, memory 2GB and RAID5 structure)
DB construction time: around 15 hours.
*More time may be consumed depending on server performance and RAID structure.
Construct operation database
The steps to create the operation database of a Systemwalker Desktop Keeper Management Server/Master Management Server are as follows:
Log in to Windows with the user that belongs to the Administrators group or the user that belongs to the Domain Admins group. When other application is being used, close it.
Please refer to the notes mentioned above for existence condition of user name.
Select [All Programs] - [Systemwalker Desktop Keeper] - [Server] - [Operating Environment Maintenance Wizard (Construct or Delete Environment)] from the [Start] menu.
After the “Welcome to use Operating Environment Maintenance Wizard (Construct/Delete Environment)” window is displayed, please click the [Next] button.
The [Select a process] window is displayed. Please set [Executed process] and [Construction Options], and click the [Next] button.
Item Name | Description |
---|---|
[Executed process] | Select a process to be executed. Please select “Construct operating environment”:
|
[Specify the database of processing target] | This is automatically selected according to the construction status of database. |
[Construction options] | Select the type of server to be executed:
|
The “Enter the database information” window is displayed. (The following window is the example of construction as a Master Management Server).
Please set [Database creation target] and [Estimate database capacity]. Click the [Capacity Estimation] button.
Please confirm the [Database capacity] and [Available disk capacity] displayed in [Capacity], and change [Database creation target] when [Available disk capacity] is insufficient. In addition, [Estimate database capacity] can be increased if necessary. Please set [Database capacity] directly.
After determining [Database creation target] and [Estimate database capacity], please click the [Next] button.
Item Name | Description | |
---|---|---|
[Database creation target] | Enter the creation target of database. The initial setting is “C:\DTK\SFWD”. When changing the displayed creation target, click the [View] button to change the folder. Folders on network and file systems that are not in NTFS format cannot be specified. The number of characters specified as a folder name of database creation target can be no more than 32 bytes. Multi-byte characters such as space, Hiragana, Katakana and Chinese characters cannot be specified. | |
[Estimate database capacity] | [Number of all CTs] | Enter the total number of CTs managed in Master Management Server within the range of 1-50000. This is unable to be entered when a Management Server is selected. |
[Number of CTs managed in this server] (required) | Enter the number of CTs managed in this server within the range of 1-50000. | |
[Number of file operation logs] | Enter the number of file operation logs within the range of 1-99999. | |
[Number of non-file operation records] (required) | Enter the number of non-file operation logs within the range of 1-99999. | |
[Number of months to save] | Select the number of months to be saved ranging from 1 to 12. Note The number of months saved here is used for capacity estimation only The [Number of months to save] at the time of database construction is the number specified for capacity calculation. Even if the storage period is exceeded, it will still be saved. (The log information that exceeds the storage period will not be backed up/deleted automatically.) | |
[Capacity] | [Database capacity] (required) | Set the items of [Estimate database capacity] and the estimated value is displayed when the [Capacity Estimation] button is clicked. When available disk capacity of the database creation target is sufficient, and it is expected to create with a capacity that is larger than the estimated value, please reset this item within the range of available disk capacity. |
[Available disk capacity] | Display the available capacity of the creation target disk. |
After the “Confirm the settings” window is displayed, please confirm that the content displayed in the window does not have any mistakes, and then click the [Next] button.
After the [Process execution] window is displayed, start creating the database.
After processing has completed normally, the [Process completed]] window will be displayed. Please click the [Finish] button.
Then the [Automatic backup settings] window is displayed.
Target | Backup window | |
---|---|---|
Automatic backup/deletion | To set up if carrying out automatic backup or deletion or not:
Initial setting: No | |
Automatic backup/deletion settings | To perform setting of automatic backup and deletion. | |

Note
When a date after the 29th is specified in the [Execution date], the following information will be displayed:
According to the execution month, if the date does not exist, automatic backup and deletion cannot be conducted. In order to guarantee that the operation can be performed every month, please specify the date to be before the 28th.
Note
About the time spent for automatic backup and deletion
Automatic backup/deletion will backup management information, log information in Log Viewer format and log information, and delete log information.
Therefore, automatic backup and deletion will take some time.
