3.1.4 Hardware Information

There are two types of hardware information, depending on inventory collection: "Hardware Details" acquired and "lease contract information" to be added to hardware information.

For lease contract information, please refer to "Lease Management Function".

Hardware Details

Hardware information can be collected in two different ways: independent collection from registry information, and collection using Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI).

To collect information on Windows(R) 98, or Windows NT(R), using WMI, please download "Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) SDK 1.5 (Windows 95/98/NT 4.0)" from Microsoft Web site and install it on the PC with "Systemwalker Desktop Patrol CT".

The Hardware Information in the "Systemwalker Desktop Patrol Main Menu" is displayed as follows:

For detailed hardware information, Inventory information that can be collected and items that can be checked vary with different operating systems (OS) used. Hardware information that can be acquired is shown in the table below:

Note 1:

• When applying DHCP on Windows(R) 98, Windows(R) Me, Windows(R) 2000, Windows(R) XP, and Windows Server(R) 2003, if the IP address cannot be assigned due to inexistence of DHCP server, use APIPA (Automatic Private IP Addressing) to automatically configure the IP (Internet Protocol) for network connection. At that time, a private IP address is automatically assigned to PC within the range from 169.254.0.1 to 169.254.255.254 reserved by Microsoft.
• If TCP/IP alternate address is set on Windows(R) XP and Windows Server(R) 2003, the value of TCP/IP assigned on the DHCP server is obtained.

  If the DHCP server does not exist, use the private IP address that is automatically obtained, or the value of TCP/IP set in user information. The DHCP server is obtained while DHCP is being operated.

• When collecting Inventory in the following cases, network card information and TCP/IP information cannot be obtained. In addition, set NULL in the IP address.
  • No network card is installed.
  • Network card is invalid.
  • Cable is disconnected.
  • IP address is not assigned on DHCP.
  • IP address is not assigned on Wireless LAN.
• IP address is sorted in ascending order and obtained. Information with NULL for IP address is obtained at last.
• When applying DHCP, the DNS sever information obtained from DHCP sever cannot be collected.

Note 2:

On Windows NT(R), Windows(R) 2000, Windows(R) XP or Windows Server(R) 2003, the following hardware information cannot be obtained in inventory collection in agent mode.

• Screensaver

  The screensaver set by a user on the "Screen properties" cannot be collected. Collect the following screensavers that are preset by the operating system to display at the time of logon.

• Drives Information

  Network drive information cannot be collected.

  It can be collected when distributing shared folder belonged to PCs on CT domain in network drivers.

• Network shared information

  Network shared information cannot be collected.

• Printer Information

  Network printer information cannot be collected.
