3.7.4 Performance Information (Windows)

This section explains how to collect the performance information necessary when investigate a performance problem in Windows platform.

mark1Collecting Performance Information (Windows)

  1. Double click on the [Administrative Tools]-[Performance] to start the system monitor.

  2. Click on [Performance Logs and Alerts]-[Counter Logs] of the system monitor.

  3. Right click on the [Description] of the [Counter Logs]. Then, select the [New Log Settings...] from the pop-up menu.

  4. At the [New Log Settings] window, input any log file name (ex. perf). Then click [OK].

  5. At the [General] tab, click [Add Counters] to display the [Select Counters] window.

  6. At the [Select Counters] window, from the list in the [Performance object], select [Memory]. Select the following counters from the [Select counters from list]. Then click [Add].
    --> Collecting amount of memory use
    (It is necessary to click on [Add] for each counter)

  7. At the [Select Counters] window, from the list in the [Performance object], select [Processor]. Select the following counters from the [Select counters from list]. Then click [Add].
    --> Collecting the CPU use status
    (It is necessary to click on [Add] for each counter)

  8. At the [Select Counters] window, from the list in the [Performance object], select [System]. Select the following counters from the [Select counters from list]. Then click [Add].
    --> Collecting the CPU use status

  9. At the [Select Counters] window, from the list in the [Performance object], select [PhysicalDisk]. Select the following counters from the [Select counters from list]. Then click [Add].
    --> Collecting I/O status
    (It is necessary to click on [Add] for each counter)

  10. At the [select Counters] Window, select the following items from the [Performance object]. Select [All counters] then click [Add].

    --> Collecting the network load status

  11. At the [Select Counters] window, click [Close].

  12. At the [Log file name] of the [Log Files] tab, enter the folder and the file names for the output destination of log files

    From the [End file name with] drop down list, select [mmddhhmm].

    Then from the [Log file type] drop down list, select the item below and click [OK].

    - For Windows 2000: [Text File - CSV]

    - For Windows Server 2003: [Text File - CSV]

  13. At the [Schedule] tab, from the [Stop log], select [After] and set the time to [2 minutes]. Click [Apply] then click [OK].

  14. The log will be collected after 2 minutes. The icon color of the log in the description window will be changed from green to red. Collect the log file (text file) stored in the folder specified in step 11.

  15. Start the Windows Task Manager. Copy the windows screen (hardcopy) of the [Process] tab.
