6.1.10 Virtual Machine Management

New creation of Virtual Machine

After creating a new VM guest, perform the Reload Conf. operation for the VM host where the VM guest exists.

In a VMware vSphere Virtual Volumes environment, when a VM guest created on the VVOL datastore is powered on, it is automatically registered on the ETERNUS SF system. Therefore, it is not required to perform the Reload Conf. operation for the VM guest.

Migration of Virtual Machine

When migrating VM guests between VM hosts using the Storage vMotion function or the vSphere HA function, this migration is not automatically detected by this product. If an operation that changes the UUID of the VM guest is performed, such as when moving a VM guest or when performing a backup / restore, the status of the VM guest becomes "Unknown" since this product cannot recognize whether the VM guest before and after the operation is the same one. For this reason, when the operation that changes the UUID of a VM guest has been performed, take the following action on Web Console:

  1. From the VM host, delete the VM guest that is set with the UUID before the change.

  2. Perform the Reload Conf. operation for the VM host in which the VM guest that is set with the UUID after the change exists.

In a VMware vSphere Virtual Volumes environment, when the VM guest is migrated to the VVOL datastore, its migration is automatically recognized. If the VM guest is migrated with its power OFF, its migration is automatically recognized when the VM guest is powered on. Therefore, it is not required to perform the Reload Conf. operation for the migrated VM guest.
