9.9.5 Enable/Disable Deduplication/Compression of Thin Provisioning Pool

The procedure to enable/disable the Deduplication/Compression of the Thin Provisioning Pool created in the ETERNUS Disk storage system is as follows.

Note

If a Dedup volume exists in the target Thin Provisioning Pool, deduplication cannot be disabled.

Information

If a Thin Provisioning Pool that has Deduplication/Compression enabled is created, the procedure to enable Deduplication/Compression is not required.

Procedure to Enable Deduplication/Compression

  1. On the global navigation tab, click Storage.
    The registered ETERNUS Disk storage systems are displayed on the Main pane.

  2. On the Main pane, click the target ETERNUS Disk storage system.

  3. On the Category pane, click Thin Provisioning.

  4. On the Main pane, check the target Thin Provisioning Pool checkbox.

  5. Perform the following works according to the target ETERNUS Disk storage system:

    • For devices that support enabling Deduplication alone or Compression alone

      1. On the Action pane, click Enable under Deduplication/Compression.
        The information input screen (Enable Deduplication/Compression) is displayed.

      2. If you enable Deduplication, click the "Enable" radio button of the Deduplication field.
        If you enable Compression, click the "Enable" radio button of the Compression field.

      3. Confirm the input information, and then click Enable.

    • For devices other than above

      1. On the Action pane, click Enable under Deduplication/Compression.
        The information confirmation screen is displayed.

      2. Confirm the information, and then click Enable.

Procedure to Disable Deduplication/Compression

  1. On the global navigation tab, click Storage.
    The registered ETERNUS Disk storage systems are displayed on the Main pane.

  2. On the Main pane, click the target ETERNUS Disk storage system.

  3. On the Category pane, click Thin Provisioning.

  4. On the Main pane, check the target Thin Provisioning Pool checkbox.

  5. Perform the following works according to the target ETERNUS Disk storage system:

    • For devices that support enabling Deduplication alone or Compression alone

      1. On the Action pane, click Disable under Deduplication/Compression.
        The information input screen (Disable Deduplication/Compression) is displayed.

      2. If you disable Deduplication, click the "Disable" radio button of the Deduplication field.
        If you disable Compression, click the "Disable" radio button of the Compression field.

      3. Confirm the input information, and then click Disable.

    • For devices other than above

      1. On the Action pane, click Disable under Deduplication/Compression.
        The information confirmation screen is displayed.

      2. Confirm the information, and then click Disable.

Point

It is recommended that you create a Thin Provisioning Pool that Deduplication/Compression is enabled with the automatic creation. Refer to the following section in the Chapter "Operation" in the Storage Cruiser Operation Guide.
