When an archive is created or when data is retrieved from an archive, the free space on the virtual disk, which is also where the cache area is located, is used for internal processing (hereinafter referred to as "Archive Operations Area").
To create an archive, at least 10% of the used datastore capacity (minimum of 20 GB) is required for an Archive Operations Area. In addition, to retrieve data from an archive, at least 10% of archive data (minimum of 20 GB) to be retrieved is required for an Archive Operations Area.
Archive Operations Areas can be shared to create an archive and to retrieve data from an archive, but a virtual disk with a capacity no smaller than the total of the cache capacity and Archive Operations Area size is necessary.
Point
An Archive Operations Area is not required if you are not creating or retrieving data from archives.
