Appendix C Messages Output when Using the Virtual L-Server Export and Import Functions

This appendix explains the messages output when using the VM Converter of the virtual L-Server export and import functions.

VM Converter messages are output in the following locations.

However, these messages are only output when the status of the export or import task is "Error".

• [GUI] The "Message" parameter on the Task Status window

• [CLI] In the "Message" parameter of the Update-ConvertTask -Show command

  
  

For the following commands, the messages are output in the execution results.

• [CLI] Start-VMtoLServer

• [CLI] Start-LServertoLPlatform

The specified output folder is not empty.

Description

The folder specified as the storage folder for the exported file is not empty.

Corrective Action

Specify an empty folder.

The attempt to connect to the Web service has failed.

Description

Connection with the VM host failed.

Corrective Action

• The VM host may not have been started.

  Start the VM host and perform the operation again.

• The VM host name may not be resolvable from the Windows machine that the VM Converter is installed on. Check whether the name of the target VM host can be resolved. If it cannot be resolved, correct the settings of the hosts file to enable resolution, and then perform the operation again.

Logging-in to the Web service has failed.

Description

Login to the VM host failed.

Corrective Action

Incorrect details may have been specified for account information used for login to the VM host.

Perform the operation again, specifying the correct account.

Downloading the image file has failed.

Description

The process of export from the VM host failed.

Corrective Action

There may not be sufficient space available in the folder specified as the storage location for the exported file. Secure sufficient disk space and perform the operation again.

Unexpected error occurred during the export.

Description

An internal error occurred during connection with the VM host.

Corrective Action

The required VC++ (Visual Studio 2012) runtime (x86 version) may not be installed. Check whether it is installed.

Uploading the image file has failed.

Description

Failed to upload the virtual hard disk file of the virtual machine to the migration target VM host.

Corrective Action

• Check that the free space of the migration target VM host is sufficient, then perform the operation again.

• The VM host name may not be resolvable from the Windows machine that the VM Converter is installed on. Check whether the name of the target VM host can be resolved. If it cannot be resolved, correct the settings of the hosts file to enable resolution, and then perform the operation again.

The specified host was not found.

Description

The migration target VM host could not be found.

Corrective Action

• Check the specified migration target VM host name, then perform the operation again.

• The VM host name may not be resolvable from the Windows machine that the VM Converter is installed on. Check whether the name of the target VM host can be resolved. If it cannot be resolved, correct the settings of the hosts file to enable resolution, and then perform the operation again.

The specified datastore was not found.

Description

The datastore specified by the migration target VM host could not be found.

Corrective Action

Check the datastore name of the migration target VM host, then perform the operation again.

The virtual network specified with the configuration file was not found.

Description

Failed to obtain the information of the virtual network name specified in the virtual machine configuration file.

Corrective Action

Correct the virtual network name specified in the virtual machine configuration file and perform the operation again.

The specified virtual machine name already exists.

Description

A virtual machine name which already exists in the customization file has been specified.

Corrective Action

Check that the computer name specified in the customization file does not overlap with another virtual machine name, and perform the operation again.

The operation has failed because the user does not have permission.

Description

The specified user does not have sufficient access authority for the migration target VM host or the VM management server.

Corrective Action

Check the specified user authority and perform the operation again.

The operation on the web service has timed out.

Description

A timeout occurred during communication with the migration target VM host or the VM management server.

Corrective Action

• Check that there are no problems in communication with the migration target VM host or the VM management server.

• Modify the timeout value.

Information

When specifying thickeager using the VMDiskFormat option of the Start-ImportTask command, a timeout may occur during import due to the performance of the migration target host. In that case, modify the timeout value, WebService, for import.

For details, refer to "17.10.3.3 Definition Files for Importing Using the VM Converter CLI" in the "User's Guide for Infrastructure Administrators (Resource Management) CE".

The configuration file format is invalid.

Description

The format of the virtual machine configuration file is invalid.

Corrective Action

After correcting the format of the virtual machine configuration file, perform the operation again.

Loading the configuration file has failed.

Description

Failed to load the virtual machine configuration file.
In other cases, the virtual machine configuration file format is invalid.

Corrective Action

After correcting the file path specified in the virtual machine configuration file, perform the operation again.
Or correct the virtual machine configuration file format, and then perform the operation again.

There is an unspecified element or attribute in the configuration file. (%1)

Description

A required element is not specified in the virtual machine configuration file.

Corrective Action

After specifying the required element in the virtual machine configuration file, perform the operation again.

Invalid value has been specified in the configuration file. (%1)

Description

The attribute value specified in the virtual machine configuration file is an invalid string or value.

Corrective Action

After correcting the attribute value specified in the virtual machine configuration file, perform the operation again.

There is an unspecified value in the configuration file. (%1)

Description

A required attribute is not specified in the virtual machine configuration file.

Corrective Action

After specifying the required attribute in the virtual machine configuration file, perform the operation again.

vmwType attribute must be used, when ovfType attribute is 1 in the configuration file.

Description

vmwType is not specified in the virtual machine configuration file.

Corrective Action

After specifying the character string for vmwType in the virtual machine configuration file, perform the operation again.

Loading the customization file has failed.

Description

Reading of the customization file failed.
Or it may be that the format of the customization file is invalid.

Corrective Action

After correcting the file path of the customization file, perform the operation again.
Correct the format of the customization file, then perform the operation again.

The customization file format is invalid.

Description

The customization file format is invalid.

Corrective Action

After correcting the format of the customization file, perform the operation again.

The specified NIC mode is invalid.

Description

The network interface mode specified in the customization file is invalid.

Corrective Action

After correcting the network interface mode specified in the customization file, perform the operation again.

The format of the computer name is invalid.

Description

A string which cannot be used as a computer name in the customization file has been specified.

Corrective Action

After correcting the computer name specified in the customization file, perform the operation again.

The format of the IP address is invalid.

Description

The IP address specified in the customization file is invalid.

Corrective Action

After correcting the IP address specified in the customization file, perform the operation again.

There is a value not specified in the customization file. (%1)

Description

A required element is not specified in the customization file.

Corrective Action

After adding the required element to the customization file, perform the operation again.

The command to customize the virtual machine has failed.

Description

Customization of the virtual machine could not start.

Corrective Action

Modify the timeout value.

Information

As initialization of NICs by the OS takes a long time, customization of the virtual machine using the Start-ImportTask command may not be able to start.
In that case, the message box, "Waiting for NIC initialization has timed-out", is displayed when logging in to the virtual machine for the first time.

Before starting other import operations, modify the timeout value for import, FindNic.

For details, refer to "17.10.3.3 Definition Files for Importing Using the VM Converter CLI" in the "User's Guide for Infrastructure Administrators (Resource Management) CE".

Customizing the virtual machine has failed.

Description

Customization of the virtual machine failed.

Corrective Action

Contact Fujitsu technical staff.

Specified file type not supported.

Description

There is an error in one of the following specified file formats.

• The virtual hard disk file of the specified virtual machine (it is not in VMDK format).

• The virtual machine configuration file

• The customization file

Corrective Action

After correcting the format of each file, perform the operation again.

Specified invalid parameter.

Description

There is an error in the specified parameter.

Corrective Action

Specify the correct parameter, and perform the operation again.

In addition, check that the required elements of the following files specified using the argument is described.

• The virtual machine configuration file

• The customization file

Not specified network connection parameter.

Description

The network is not specified in the virtual machine configuration file.

Corrective Action

After correcting the network information specified in the virtual machine configuration file, perform the operation again.

Specified invalid network connection parameter.

Description

There is an inconsistency between the network information specified in the customization file and the virtual machine configuration file.

Corrective Action

After correcting the information to match the number of NICs in the virtual machine configuration file and the customization file, perform the operation again.

Or correct the information to match the Connection names of NICs in the virtual machine configuration file and the customization file, and then perform the operation again.

Unable to connect to remote Server.

Description

Connection to the remote server is not possible.

The port number of the L-Platform API may have been modified from the default value (8014).

Corrective Action

After checking the port number of the L-Platform API of the Resource Orchestrator manager, and specifying the correct port number using the Start-LServertoLplatform command, and perform the operation again.

Converter Engine execution error. (%1)

Description

An unexpected error has occurred.

Corrective Action

When %1 is "Unknown error", processing may have been canceled during an operation.
When unnecessary virtual machines or virtual L-Servers remain in the manager and the host of the migration source and target, delete them and perform the operation again.
