3.4.6 Activating Virtual Adapters

When you have checked that the virtual adapter settings are correct, activate the virtual adapter using the strhanet command.

The following example shows the input format for strhanet and the corresponding confirmation prompt.

> strhanet
FJSVhanet: INFO: 00007: Start the ping monitoring using the hanetpoll command if needed.
FJSVhanet: INFO: 00000: The command ended normally.

For more details, refer to "6.2.7 strhanet."

Note

  • It may take about 90 seconds for each virtual adapter to be activated.

  • When you execute the strhanet command, GLS virtual adapters automatically assign themselves a MAC address. The GLS method of assigning MAC addresses usually ensures that there is no duplication of MAC addresses already in use in other systems. If, for any reason, you need to set a static MAC address, execute the hanetconfig command with the Na option for defining the virtual adapter. For more details on the hanetconfig command, refer to "6.2.2 hanetconfig."

Point

  • Once you activate a virtual adapter for the first time, that virtual adapter is activated automatically every time you start the system unless you deactivate that adapter.

  • If you have set ping monitoring, message 00007 is displayed. If you carried out automatic IP address settings using the adapter setting script, you can start ping monitoring. For more details, refer to "3.4.7 Starting Ping Monitoring."
If you set IP addresses manually, you must complete the IP address settings before you can start ping monitoring. For more details, refer to "3.4.5 Follow-up Tasks: IP Address Settings."
