B.1.1 Client File Exchange Window

The File Exchange window displays two lists showing your files and folders, and the Client's files and folders. Using your mouse you move within the file systems of either computer. An example of the window is shown below:

The Support Specialist's file and folder list always displays on the left, and the Client's displays on the right. The lists show the file names and extensions, date and time, and file size. You can click the Name, Ext, Date/Time, and Size buttons to sort the file lists, and then click the sort button again to reverse the sort order.

Note

This version of Client File Exchange does not support long file names.

The following topics take a look at the File Exchange window, starting at the top.

Menus

The Client File Exchange menus are: File, Options, and Help. The File menu allows you to create folders, delete folders and files, rename a file or folder, change the transfer direction, begin the transfer, and close the window. Use the Options menu to configure transfer confirmation settings for both you and the Client. For example, you can allow the Client to approve file operations and overwrites if security is an issue. Use the Help menu if you have questions while operating File Exchange.

File Lists

Two lists appear in the File Exchange window. The list on the left shows the current folders and files from your computer, while the list on the right shows the Client's. You'll see each person's name above the list for reference.
At the top of each list is the current path, followed by the filter. Next the files and folders are shown, and the date, time, and size of each file are included. You can sort the list by pressing the Name, Ext, Date/Time, and Size buttons. The sort order reverses if you press a button again.

A status bar displays below each list, and the content depends on whether the list belongs to the source or destination computer. On the source computer, the number of files/folders currently selected and their combined size appears. On the destination, the amount of free and total space on the selected drive appears.
At the bottom of each list is the Drive Select list. The current working drive is shown.

To move within the file system on either computer, use your mouse just as you would for File Manager and Explorer.
