15.2.1 Live Help Connection Manager

This section explains how to start or stop Live Help Connection Manager software.

15.2.1.1 Changing the startup method of Live Help Connection Manager

Because Live Help Connection Manager software runs as a Windows(R) service, it will continue to run even when users log out of the operating system. Also, there is no need to have a user log in to the operating system in order to start the Live Help Connection Manager software. Since Windows(R) services can be configured to run before logon occurs, Live Help Connection Manager is automatically started.
You can start the Live Help Connection Manager software manually when you need it, or configure it to run at the Windows(R) boot.

To change the starting method of Live Help Connection Manager software, do one of the following:

Use Connection Manager Administrator program

  1. Start the Connection Manager Administrator (referred to as CMADMIN) program.

  2. If the message saying "An attempt to establish communication with the Connection Manager has failed. Would you like to review its address information?" appears, click "No".

  3. Select Setup Service from the SERVICE menu and choose one of the following commands:

    • Manual Service
Changes the startup method of LiveHelp Connection Manager service to manual startup. If the service has already configured as manual start up, you cannot select the item.

    • Auto Service
Changes the startup method of LiveHelp Connection Manager service to start automatically at the Windows(R) boot. If the service has already configured as automatic start up, you cannot select the item.

Note

You can control the Live Help Connection Manager program by the SERVICE menu only when the Live Help Connection Manager and CMADMIN programs are installed on the same computer. In case the two programs are installed on different computers, menu items in the SERVICE menu are grayed out and cannot be selected.

Use the Windows(R) service setting

  1. Open the Service applet in Control Panel.

  2. Open properties for the LiveHelp Connection Manager Service.

  3. Configure the startup type to "Automatic" or "Manual".

15.2.1.2 Starting or stopping Live Help Connection Manager manually

To manually start or stop Live Help Connection Manager software, do one of the following:

Use Connection Manager Administrator program

  1. Start the CMADMIN program.

  2. If the message saying "An attempt to establish communication with the Connection Manager has failed. Would you like to review its address information?" appears, click "No".

  3. Select Control Service from the SERVICE menu and choose one of the following commands:

    • Start Service
If the service has already started, you cannot select the item.

    • Stop Service
If the service has already stopped, you cannot select the item.

Note

When you start the LiveHelp Connection Manager service, the CMADMIN program will not connect to the service automatically. If you want to keep working on the CMADMIN program after starting the service, re-select the started Live Help Connection Manager from the Connection Managers list (by default, the name of the Connection Manager is "Connection Manager 1"). The CMADMIN program will be connected to the selected Live Help Connection Manager program, and Support Centers in the Live Help Connection Manager will be displayed.

Use the Windows(R) service setting

  1. Open the Service applet in Control Panel.

  2. Start or stop LiveHelp Connection Manager Service.
