7.6 Recovering Scheduled Jobs

By specifying Recovery Operations for a job, more specific job recovery operations can be carried out.

The recovery operation can be carried out for the jobs with the Job Execution Control attribute. It is also necessary that the job nets of higher-level layer including the parent job nets do not belong to any group.

The following describes how to carry out recovery operations and types of operations.

Before carrying out any recovery operation, it is possible to prevent any operational errors from occurring by displaying the dialog box to confirm the operation. For details on setting, see "7.10 Preventing Operational Errors on Job Nets, Jobs and Groups".

Procedure

Select the desired job from the Monitor Job Net window, then select the desired operation item from the Recovery of the File menu (or select the desired operation item from the Recovery pop-up menu displayed by right-clicking).

Note

When connected to any server with Systemwalker Operation Manager V10.0L21 or V10.1 or older, no scheduled job can be recovered. The menu options are grayed out.

Operation types

The types of the recovery operations are as follows.

Start from Specified Job

Starts from the specified job. When the job is completed normally or pseudo-normally, the succeeding job will be executed.

Restart from Specified Job

This operation is available only for the jobs with the job net icon or linked job net icon. Restarts from the specified job. When the job is completed normally or pseudo-normally, the succeeding job will be executed.

Start from Next Job

This operation is available only for jobs other than the jobs with the job net icon or linked job net icon. Starts from the succeeding job leaving the specified job as it is. When the succeeding job is completed normally or pseudo-normally, the next succeeding job will be executed.

However, if the succeeding jobs include any recovery job, the recovery job will not be carried out. Also, if no succeeding job exists (including recovery job) or if only recovery jobs exist, this operation is not available.

Furthermore, if any of the succeeding jobs has Execution condition specified in the Standard information sheet of the Job Net Properties window, this operation is not available.

Specified Job Only

This operation is available only for jobs other than the jobs with the job net icon or linked job net icon. Start specified Job Only. Even when the job is completed normally or pseudo-normally, the succeeding job will not be executed. Or, even when the job is abended, the recovery job will not be executed.

This is an operation to start the jobs which remain in the abended or canceled status as a result of carrying out "Start from Next Job." Therefore, this operation is not available for the jobs with no succeeding job or the jobs for which the succeeding jobs are in the waiting status (including the jobs which are in the paused or disabled status and are previously in the waiting status) including the recovery jobs.

Point

Information specified by temporary change of jobs

The job nets brought to be in the executing status by the recovery operation and the job nets of higher-level layers are treated in the same way as they are started by the restart operation. Therefore, the information specified by the temporary change will be valid.

Point

Operations when a recovery operation is carried out for a recovery job

When the "Start from Specified Job" is carried out for a recovery job, or when the "Restart from Specified Job" is carried out for a recovery job with the job net icon or linked job net icon, whether to restart the original job of the recovery job after normal completion of the recovery job will depend on the "Restart previous job" setting in the job properties.

Relationship between job status and operations

The following describes relationship between the status of jobs and the higher-level layer job nets and operations.

Operation available only for the abended or canceled jobs

The recovery operations are available only when the job has been abended or canceled.

Operation not available for the higher-level layer job nets in the waiting status

The recovery operations are not available when the higher-level layer job nets including the parent job net are in the waiting condition.

Operation not available when Invalid at next restart is specified for the higher-level layer job nets

The recovery operations are not available when Invalid at next restart is specified for the higher-level layer job nets including the parent job net.

Operation other than "Specified Job Only" not available when the succeeding job is in the executing or completed status

The following recovery operations are not available when the status of the succeeding job is either of the delayed ,executing, warning, normal completion, pseudo-normal, abended and cancellation status (including when it is currently in the paused or disabled status and previously in any of the before mentioned status).

  • Start from Specified Job

  • Restart from Specified Job

  • Start from Next Job

The "Specified Job Only" operation not available when the succeeding job is in the waiting status

The following recovery operations are not available when the status of the succeeding job is the waiting status (including when it is currently in the paused or disabled status and previously in any of the before mentioned status).

  • Specified Job Only

Operation not available while the recovery operation (in the executing or warning status) is being carried out

While the recovery job is in operation (in the delayed, executing or warning status), no recovery operation is available for the original job of the recovery job.

Jobs in a group can be recovered only when the status of the job net is "Warning"

When a higher-order job net, including the parent job net, is contained in a group, a recovery operation can be performed only when the status of a job net containing jobs is "Warning". Furthermore, only Start from Specified Job can be specified for jobs in job nets that are not child or linked job nets, and only Restart from Specified Job can be specified for child or linked job nets.
