To automatically perform actions (such as "sending a short mail to the system administrator" or "starting an application to deal with an event") without human intervention when events occur (such as a message notifying a system error), consider using Event Monitoring and Action Control.
The actions that are automatically executed can be changed, depending on the days and times, such as weekdays, weekends, holidays, and timeslots.
If the system also includes Systemwalker Centric Manager, use the Event Monitoring and Action Control functions provided by Systemwalker Centric Manager.
The following items must be considered when Event Monitoring and Action Control are performed.
Items to be considered
Consider which events to monitor. Up to 1,024 events can be defined as monitored events.
The following table shows the types of events that can be monitored.
Event type | Description |
---|---|
Event log | The messages output to the event log files. |
Monitored log file | The added parts of text output to log files. Systemwalker Operation Manager can monitor products that log error events to custom text log files and other files. When text is added to the log files being monitored, this is treated as if an event has occurred. |
Monitored message | The messages handled by Systemwalker Centric Manager (System Monitor). These are the relayed messages transferred from the system monitoring agent located at a lower level of the logical hierarchy than the definition destination system. These messages can be monitored if Systemwalker Centric Manager has been installed. |
Also, determine the conditions for identifying particular events (such as the log, source name, event ID, type, and category).
Determine which actions to execute automatically when events occur.
The following table shows the automatic actions provided by Event Monitoring.
Automatic action | Description |
---|---|
Audio notification | Notifies the administrator of an event by reading the message aloud, playing a WAV file or playing a beep sound |
E-mail notification | Notifies the administrator of an event by sending any specified document via email |
Popup message notification | Notifies the administrator of an event by displaying any specified message as the popup message |
Short mail notification | Notifies the administrator of an event by sending any specified message as a short mail |
SNMP trap notification | Issues SNMP traps |
Application start | Starts any specified application |
Event log output | Outputs any specified message to the event log |
Also, determine the execution conditions for actions (dates and times when they will be executed).
Refer to "Monitoring Events and Managing Actions [Windows version]" in the Systemwalker Operation Manager User Guide for details on Event Monitoring and Action Control.
