3.2.1 Determining the Power Control Mode

Consider the following items when determining whether power should be controlled for Systemwalker Operation Manager servers.

Items to be considered

Power control mode

The following power control modes can be selected.

Control mode

Description

Disable the power control

Server power is not controlled.

Power is controlled for individual servers

Power is controlled for each server.

Batch Power Control

Power for multiple servers is controlled in a single step.
All hosts that execute Batch Power Control are handled as a single logical server. You can collectively specify the power control hosts that will execute Batch Power Control as well as the control target hosts for which power will be controlled. The SYSTEM_CALENDAR is then configured for the power control hosts, together with other items, such as the power control pattern and the completion monitoring options.

The following items should also be considered when controlling power:

  • Power control software

Consider using power control software for automatically switching the computer power on and off.

Power control software is required to automatically power on a computer.

Note that computer power can be automatically switched off (shutdown) or rebooted even when power control software is not used. If power control software is not used, configure settings so that only shutdown or reboot is performed.

Refer to "Hardware Resources" in the Systemwalker Operation Manager Technical Guide for details on power control software that can be used.

  • Power control hosts and control target hosts

To execute Batch Power Control, determine the power control hosts and the control target hosts. Manual server operations can only be performed for power control hosts.

  • Powering-on sequence

When executing Batch Power Control, the power control hosts are switched on first, following which the control target hosts are powered on in a set order.

The powering-off sequence is the opposite of the powering-on sequence, and the power control hosts are powered off last.

  • Interval between powering on and off

When executing Batch Power Control, determine the time until the next host is started (startup interval) and the time until the next host is stopped (shutdown interval).
