ETERNUS SF AdvancedCopy Manager V16.1 Operation Guide for Copy Control Module
FUJITSU Storage

F.2.1 Creation of Environment

Management Server

Arrange a Management Server that manages the device in the operation side and the device in the stand-by/backup side. Register the devices to the Management Server.

Device for REC

In the case where the device for REC is used as a device in the stand-by side, introduction of NAS management is required for both operation and stand-by sides. For the prior setting and introduction procedures for NAS operation, refer to "NAS Management" in the ETERNUS SF Storage Cruiser Operation Guide or ETERNUS SF Express Operation Guide.

Volume Creation

Create the volume shown below in the devices in the operation and stand-by/backup sides.

Devices in the operation side

  • NAS volume

Devices in the backup side

  • Backup volume

  • Volume for REC (temporary volume used in backup)

*1: The logical volume number of the NAS volume to be created must be the same as the one of the corresponding NAS volume in the operation side.

[Device in the operation side]

  1. Create a NAS volume according to the introduction procedures for NAS operation.

  2. Perform NAS backup setting to create a NAS backup volume.

[Device in the stand-by/backup side]

  • In the case of continuing operation by switching to the device in the stand-by side

    1. Create an NAS volume according to the introduction procedures for NAS operation. The logical volume number of the NAS volume to be created must be the same as the one of the corresponding NAS volume in the operation side.

    2. Perform NAS backup setting to create a NAS backup volume.

    3. Create a logical volume as the volume for REC of inter-box backup.

  • In the case of operating the device for REC as a device exclusively for backup

    1. Create a logical volume as the volume for REC of inter-box backup.

    2. Create a logical volume as the backup volume of inter-box backup.

See

  • For the introduction procedures for NAS operation, refer to "NAS management" in the ETERNUS SF Storage Cruiser Operation Guide or ETERNUS SF Express Operation Guide.

  • For the procedure to create a NAS backup volume, refer to "Create NAS Backup Volume" in the ETERNUS SF Web Console Guide.

Note

  • The volume for REC needs to be assigned a Logical volume of the same capacity as that of the NAS backup volume of the REC source. A Thin Provisioning Volume is recommended for it.

  • Arrange a volume for REC apart from the backup volume to secure at least a generation of backup data in the stand-by/backup side.

Registration of copy group/copy pair

In inter-box backup, the copy groups shown below are created.

Point

  • In the case of inter-box backup between different sites, arrange a Management Server in each of the sites. Register all the copy groups/copy pairs to the Management Servers to allow execution of all the backup/restore procedures.

  • In the case of authentication servers in both the operation site and stand-by/backup site, setup the redundant authentication servers by using them. For how to register redundant authentication servers, refer to "Authentication Server Setup" in the ETERNUS SF Storage Cruiser Operation Guide or ETERNUS SF Express Operation Guide.

  • Use Stack mode for the REC data transmission mode.

  • In the case of backup to a tape to use the REC initial copy skipping function, direct backup to a tape from the NAS volume or NAS backup volume is not available. Back up to a tape from other secondary backup executed volume. For the secondary backup of a NAS volume, refer to "3.10.5 Concerning Secondary Backup of NAS Volume and Use of Data on Different Storage Devices".

NAS volume backup in the stand-by side

In the case of using the device for REC as a device in the stand-by side, backup the NAS volume in the stand-by side, using the following procedures before backup of NAS volume on the device in the operation side.

  1. Backup the NAS volume in the stand-by side using Web Console or acnas backup command. Refer to "3.10.1.2 How to Execute Backup" for backup using Web Console and "3.10.2.2 How to Execute Backup Commands" for backup using acnas backup command.

  2. Stop QuickOPC from NAS volume to NAS backup volume in the stand-by side (stop of physical copy and Tracking processing).

Note

Before starting backup operation in the stand-by side, a NAS volume in the stand-by side must be backed up. The backed up status can be confirmed on the screen of the Web Console shared folder list.
