G.1 Determining the number of manageable devices

The number of manageable devices by one ETERNUS SF Manager is determined using the following evaluation formula. If the value calculated by the evaluation formula (comprehensive evaluation value) exceeds 1024, allocate the devices to multiple ETERNUS SF Managers to manage:

Comprehensive evaluation value = Basal value
                              + Evaluated value of registered device
                              + Evaluated value of fault monitoring
                              + Evaluated value of performance management
                              + Evaluated value of AdvancedCopy Manager 
                              + Evaluated value of Automated QoS function 
                              + Evaluated value of Reporting function

Basal value

This is a value required for behaviors of ETERNUS SF Manager (including the Automated Storage Tiering). Specify the following value:

Basal value = 304

Evaluated value of registered device

For evaluated value of registered device, specify the value calculated by the following formula:

Evaluated value of registered device = Evaluated value 1 per model
                                 + Evaluated value 2 per model
                                 + Evaluated value 3 per model
                                 + Evaluated value 4 per model
                                 + Evaluated value 5 per model
                                 + Evaluated value 6 per model

Evaluated value 1 to 6 per model

For evaluated value per device, select the appropriate value for a device to be registered from the table below.
If the number of devices to be registered is 6 or less, specify the values only for the number of devices to be registered. If the number is 7 or more, specify the 6 largest evaluated values of the devices:

Evaluated value of fault monitoring

For evaluated value of fault monitoring, specify the value calculated by the following formula:

Evaluated value of fault monitoring = 0.3 * number of registered devices

Number of registered devices: Number of all the registered devices excluding VM guests.

Evaluated value of performance management

When using the performance management, specify the value calculated by the following formula:

Evaluated value of performance management = 13.5 * number of performance-managed devices

Number of performance-managed devices: Number of performance-managed storage devices and switch devices.

Evaluated value of AdvancedCopy Manager

When using the backup management function or replication management function of AdvancedCopy Manager, specify the value calculated by the following formula:

Evaluated value of AdvancedCopy Manager = 20

Evaluated value of the Automated QoS function

When using the Automated QoS function, specify the value calculated by the following formula:

Evaluated value of the Automated QoS function = 10 + 0.2 * total number of FTVs in storage devices targeted for Automated QoS

Total number of FTVs in storage devices targeted for Automated QoS: Total number of FTVs in all the storage devices for which the Automated QoS function is enabled.

Evaluated value of the Reporting function

When using the Reporting function, specify the value calculated by the following formula:

Evaluated value of the Reporting function = 0.3 * total number of volumes in storage devices targeted for reporting

Total number of volumes in storage devices targeted for reporting: Total number of volumes in all the storage devices for which the Reporting function is enabled.
