C.10.10 Advisory Notes for OVM for x86 3.2 Usage

Allocation of Physical CPU (pin)

Physical CPUs are not allocated (pin) from Resource Orchestrator. When necessary, operate Oracle VM directly, and configure the settings. When a VM host which starts when powering on an L-Server is changed, it is recommended to configure "Fixed" for the L-Server boot location, as the physical CPU allocation settings will be cancelled.

Destination Storage Repository when Creating an L-Server

In Resource Orchestrator, when creating an L-Server using a virtual cloning image, the L-Server is created in the storage repository in which the virtual cloning image is stored.

Destination Storage Repository when Collecting Virtual Cloning Images

In Resource Orchestrator, when collecting virtual cloning images from an L-Server, the virtual cloning images are stored in the same storage repository as the L-Server.

Upgrading of Oracle VMs

In Resource Orchestrator, when managing Oracle VM V2.2 environments, if an Oracle VM server is upgraded to version V3.2.1, it cannot be managed as the same server. After registering the upgraded server as a new server, import and manage the existing VM guest as an L-Server.

Maximum Number of CPUs when Creating an L-Server

In Resource Orchestrator, when creating an L-Server, configure the same values for the maximum number of CPUs as the already specified number of CPUs. When changing the maximum number of CPUs, operate Oracle VM directly, and modify the settings.

Maximum Memory Size when Creating an L-Server

In Resource Orchestrator, when creating an L-Server, configure the same values for the maximum memory size as the already specified memory size. When changing the maximum memory size, operate Oracle VM directly, and modify the settings.

Specification of CPU Performance Values

When the value of less than 10% of CPU performance of a physical server is specified, it is rounded up to the value of 10%.
Therefore, the value of 1GHz or more is recommended to be set.

Device 1 of a VM Guest

In Resource Orchestrator, device 1 of a VM guest is used as a CD-ROM drive. Configure device 2 or devices with later numbers as the data disks.

Name and Number of Detected Virtual Storage Resources

All virtual storage resources connected to VM hosts are detected.

The names of displayed virtual storage resources are the names of storage repositories displayed on Oracle VM Manager.
