4.3.1 Disk array ETERNUS DX series, ETERNUS2000, ETERNUS4000, ETERNUS8000


4.3.1.1 Setting

To manage the ETERNUS DX series, ETERNUS2000, ETERNUS4000 and ETERNUS8000 with this software, set up devices while keeping in mind the points listed below.

  1. Community setting in SNMP (Agent) environment settings

    This software communicates with the ETERNUS product by using "public" for the Community name at an initial value. Therefore, the Community name setting on the ETERNUS product side must be either of the ones explained following a and b. Note that the Community name can be changed. For information on changing the Community name, refer to following c and "SNMP_COMMUNITY_NAME_FOR_IP" parameter in sanma.conf at "A.2 sanma.conf Parameter".

    In addition, for ETERNUS DX80 S2/DX90 S2, ETERNUS DX400 S2 series and ETERNUS DX8000 S2 series, set "ViewALL" in the MIB view to the Community name.

    1. Any Community is not set. (default)
      "Public" (Access: read Only, address: all hosts, and view: all Object) is set by an initial value.
      However, "Public" is not set by an initial value without the Community setting in case of ETERNUS DX80 S2/DX90 S2, ETERNUS DX400 S2 series, ETERNUS DX8000 S2 series. Set one of b or c for the Community setting.

    2. Specify "public" for the Community name explicitly.
      In this case, specify either the IP address of the Management Server on which Manager is installed or 0.0.0.0 (to receive messages from all hosts) as the IP address.

    3. Specify other than "public" for the Community name explicitly.
      The Management Server is specified with the Community name and the Management Server's IP address. However, when the manager is running in a clustered system, the manager communicates with ETERNUS by using the physical IP address of the clustered system. Therefore the Community setup is described by the same number as the physical IP addresses.

      Example

      "ssc" is the specified Community name for SNMP communication with the Management Server (IP Address: 10.10.10.10):

      community ssc 10.10.10.10

      "ssccom" is the specified Community name for SNMP communication with the Management Server operating as a clustered system operation (physical IP_A: 10.10.10.11, physical IP_B: 10.10.10.12):

      community ssccom 10.10.10.11
      community ssccom 10.10.10.12
  2. Trap setting in SNMP Agent Configuration Setting

    Since the manager's SNMP Trap receiving module has not judged this Community name, all SNMP Traps sent to the Management Server can be received. Even in an environment where the Community name is specified other than default, it is not necessary to change this community name in trap setting. The Community name of the trap destination is recommended to be set as "public", not same as the Community name of SNMP Community under the consideration of security.

    In the ETERNUS Disk Storage system, if the number of the SNMP Trap transmission destination is set to the maximum number of register, no new IP address can be added. Therefore, make sure that the number of SNMP Trap transmission destination is less than the maximum number.

  3. Device name setting (SysName) in SNMP (Agent) environment settings

    Register a nickname for storage management. This software uses this value as SysName.

  4. Network environment settings

    If the Management Server resides outside the location indicated by the IP address, subnet mask, gateway, and subnet, the subnet of the Management Server must be registered as the destination network address.

    Point

    When the Management Server is in a cluster:

    If you specify the IP address of the Management Server as a destination network address, specify both physical IP address of each node on the Management Server in a cluster and IP address taken over.

  5. Generation of SSH server key (ETERNUS DX80 S2/DX90 S2, ETERNUS DX400 S2 series, ETERNUS DX8000 S2 series only)

    Execute the generation of the SSH server key needed for the SSH communication between this software and the devices.
    The bit number of the SSH server keys is arbitrary.

  6. Creation of Software role account (ETERNUS DX80 S2/DX90 S2, ETERNUS DX400 S2 series, ETERNUS DX8000 S2 series only)

    Create an account for this software to manage a device.
    Note the following restrictions about the account.

    • The root user cannot be used it to manage this software.

    • The account should be a software role.
      Select Software as the user level when creating the account

    • Specify this account information when you register a device in this product.

    If you have changed the user name or password on the device side after having registered the account to this software, performing "Reload Conf." for the relevant device causes this product to recognize the password change made on the device side and the device will have a Warning message displayed.

    Change the device management account information in the Web Console to make it match with the change in settings made on the device side.

  7. SSL Certificate generation or registration (ETERNUS DX80 S2/DX90 S2, ETERNUS DX400 S2 series, ETERNUS DX8000 S2 series only)

    This product uses an HTTPS connection to manage the storage devices (default).
    In order to be able to use a HTTPS connection with the storage devices, choose one of the following settings:

    • Create Self-signed SSL Certificate Setting

    • Register SSL Certificate Setting

  8. Logoff

    Be sure to log off from the ETERNUS Web GUI after completing the setup in the ETERNUS Web GUI.

    You must be logged off from the ETERNUS Web GUI in order to perform registration of the device to this product.

  9. ETERNUS Web GUI network settings (ETERNUS DX60/DX60 S2/DX80/DX90, ETERNUS DX400 series, ETERNUS DX8000 series, ETERNUS4000 models 400 and 600, ETERNUS8000 models 800, 1200 and 2200 only)

    • For the ETERNUS DX60/DX60 S2/DX80/DX90

      Under the ETERNUS Web GUI Global Settings tab, click Setup Network Environment in the Network Settings and check the settings for the following items:

      • Check that "Enable" is specified for Maintenance connections.

      • Check that "Disable" is specified for Maintenance-Secure connections.

    • For the ETERNUS DX400 series, ETERNUS DX8000 series, ETERNUS4000 models 400 and 600, ETERNUS8000 models 800, 1200 and 2200

      Click Various Settings > Network Environment Configuration (USER Port) in the main menu for ETERNUSmgr and check the settings for the following items:

      • Check that "Enable" is specified for Maintenance Port.

      • Check that "Disable" is specified for Maintenance-Secure Port.

Information

For this software, the host access control function of ETERNUS Disk storage system is called "host affinity function", and zone numbers are called "AffinityGroup numbers".


To use this software to set the server node and storage access path (the SAN environment containing the Fibre Channel switch), refer to "6.2.3.1 Preparations". The following settings must also be configured in the device.

The following settings can be set up from this product, so it is not necessary to perform setup from the device side.

Date-time settings

To set the date-time for the device, perform the procedure shown below. If the date-time is set during performance monitoring, briefly stop performance monitoring and then restart it.

  1. Stop performance monitoring of the device for which date-time is set.

  2. Set date-time for the device.

  3. After the date-time settings are complete, restart performance monitoring of the device.

Device configuration changing

To change the configuration for the device, the device configuration information kept by performance management must be updated. Update the configuration information according to the procedure in "7.2.9 Updating configuration information".


4.3.1.2 Problem-handling (FAQ)

Unable to detect ETERNUS DX series, ETERNUS2000, ETERNUS4000, ETERNUS8000
  • This software uses SNMP communication to find devices. Therefore, a storage device whose SNMP function is inactive cannot be detected. The storage device's SNMP function must be started.

  • This software may be unable to automatically detect the device if SNMP Trap transmissions are set to a specific server but a server which has Manager operating on it is not set as the SNMP Trap transmission destination. Check the settings for the SNMP Trap transmission destination.

  • If the SNMP community name is changed and Manager is in the cluster environment, settings on the storage device side may be incorrect. Refer to "Changing SNMP community name" given below.

  • Check that there are no problems with the settings for the storage device and its network environment. This includes network environment settings, access permission settings, transmission mode settings, and so on. Refer to the section "4.3.1.1 Setting" for network settings. For transmission mode settings, if transmission mode on one side of the connection is "Auto Negotiation" and "FULL (full duplex)" on the other, transmissions may being unable to be sent or slow down, so make sure that the transmission mode is set correctly.

Changing SNMP community name
  • The name of the SNMP Community used for SNMP transmission is specified when registering the ETERNUS Disk Storage system or is set in the setting file (sanma.conf). If the SNMP Community settings in the sanma.conf are at their defaults, this software implements SNMP communication using the community name public by default. If "Set SNMP Agent Environment"-"Set Community" is not set at all for ETERNUS Disk Storage system other than ETERNUS DX80 S2/DX90 S2, ETERNUS DX400 S2 series, ETERNUS DX8000 S2 series, "public" (access: readOnly, address: all hosts, view: all objects) has been set as the initial value. If at least one community is set, this software communicates with only the specified community settings.
    When the SNMP community name for the ETERNUS storage devices is to be changed, storage device settings are required.
    Refer to "2. Community setting in SNMP (Agent) environment setting" in "4.3.1.1 Setting".

Timeout occurs in communication
  • Check that there are no problems with the settings for transmission mode in the storage device and its network environment. For transmission mode settings, if transmission mode on one side of the connection is "Auto Negotiation" and "FULL (full duplex)" on the other, transmissions may being unable to be sent or slow down, so make sure that the transmission mode is set correctly.

Status displayed by this software differs from the actual status of the device
  • When the device is under the maintenance, the status displayed with this software might be different from an actual status of the device.

  • If the redundant copy function was running on ETERNUS DX60/DX60 S2, DX80, DX90, the overall status on the ETERNUS Web GUI is "Error", but "Warning" is displayed by this software.
