Chapter 2 : Setting the Operating Environment |
The method of initializing the disk used as the data transfer path of the XL-DATA/MV is as follows.
The following transfer combinations determine the server from where the initialization is to be executed.
Transfer Combinations | Server to initialize from |
---|---|
Transfers between a UNIX server and UNIX server | Initializing from a UNIX server (If there is a Solaris server, it is recommended to initialize from the Solaris server.) |
Transfers between a UNIX server and an IA server | |
Transfers between a IA server and IA server | Initializing from a IA server |
The data transfer volume, which is used by XL-DATA/MV, is formatted so that data transfer requests can be performed from both the UNIX/IA servers.
Therefore, information about the systems using the data transfer volume must be configured. The client/server system of the XL-DATA/MV refers to the system connected to the data transfer volume.
Client System | The system requesting the data transfer. |
Server System | The system receiving the data transfer request. |
When initializing the data transfer volume, the client system name and server system name are required.
These system names are required for data transfers. If specified incorrectly, the XL-DATA/MV daemon or service may not run properly, and the data transfer may fail, even though the data transfer volume has been initialized.
The system name varies for each corresponding system type.
- For a UNIX server, specify the node name obtained by executing the uname command with specifying the [-n] option.
- For a Windows Server 2003(x64), specify the computer name displayed in the [Computer name Changes] window, which is accessed by pressing the [Change] button of the [Computer Name] tab in the [System Properties] window of the [My Computer] properties.
- For a Windows Server 2008(x64), specify the computer name displayed in the [System] properties window of the [Computer] properties.
However, please specify the following system names to operate the XL-DATA/MV on the cluster system.
- Specify the "virtual node name" (UNIX server) or the "virtual computer name" (IA server) specified for the the Data Transfer Environment Settings File for a system name of the UNIX/IA server on the cluster system.
Refer to Appendix F: Operation of Cluster System for the operation of the XL-DATA/MV on the cluster system.
