This chapter provides an overview of the installation and environment setting for the Tape Manager of AdvancedCopy Manager under each operating environment. For details, see Chapter 2 to Chapter 5.
The installation type of AdvancedCopy Manager depends on the operating environment. The operating environment is explained in "Overview of Installation Procedure Depending on Operating Environment".
The Storage Server is a server which executes the backup operation and the replication operation that AdvancedCopy Manager offers. The Agent of AdvancedCopy Manager is installed on the Storage Server. If the Storage Server is also to be used as the Storage Management Server, the Manager of AdvancedCopy Manager will need to be installed. The Agent installation is included as part of the Manager installation.
The Storage Management Server manages the Storage Servers, and only one Storage Management Server can be set in the system. The Manager of AdvancedCopy Manager needs to be installed on the Storage Management Server.
The Tape Server performs backup to tape media in cooperation with backup transactions of the Storage Server. The Agent and Tape Manager of AdvancedCopy Manager need to be installed on the Tape Server. However, if the Tape Server is also to be used as the Storage Management Server, the Manager and Tape Manager of AdvancedCopy Manager will need to be installed.
This section explains an overview of the installation procedures of the Tape Server.
For an overview of the installation procedures for the Storage Server and Storage Management Server, see "ETERNUS SF AdvancedCopy Manager Installation Guide" for the operating system of the target Storage Server and Storage Management Server.
When the Tape Server and other Servers are independent, transactions at the Storage Server and Storage Management Server are less affected. In this case, the Agent and Tape Manager of AdvancedCopy Manager are installed in the Tape Server. The Agent of AdvancedCopy Manager is required to perform communication with the other servers.
A tape library system may be connected to SAN (Storage Area Network) according to its type and the type of the Tape Server system.
When the Tape Server and Storage Server are independent, transactions at the Storage Server are less affected. In the environment where the transaction loads at the Storage Management Server are light, the Tape Server can also operate as a Storage Management Server (in the same operating system). In this case, the Manager and Tape Manager of AdvancedCopy Manager are installed in the Tape Server.
A tape library system may be connected to SAN (Storage Area Network) according to its type and the type of the Tape Server system.
In the environment where transaction loads at the Storage Server are light, the Tape Server can also operate as a Storage Server (in the same operating system). To operate the Tape Server also as the Storage Server, install the Agent and Tape Manager of AdvancedCopy Manager in the same manner as described in "When the Tape Server and other Servers are independent" of this section.
A tape library system may be connected to SAN (Storage Area Network) according to its type and the type of the Tape Server system.
When there are many volumes to be backed up, transactions by the Tape Server can be distributed to two or more Tape Servers. In this case, the Agent and Tape Manager of AdvancedCopy Manager are installed in all Tape Servers. However, when one of these Tape Servers is also operated as a Storage Management Server, install the Manager and Tape Manager of AdvancedCopy Manager in that Tape Server.
A tape library system may be connected to SAN (Storage Area Network) according to its type and the type of the Tape Server system.
Two or more Tape Servers can share one tape library system. In this case, the tape library system must be connected to SAN.
