6.2.1 What Is Access Path?

In this software, a logical path between a server node and a storage device is defined as an access path.

Access paths are generated by the following access control functions of the server node, Fibre Channel switch, and storage.

Fibre Channel Switch Zoning

Switch vendors provide Fibre Channel switch zoning. Information such as the WWN/port number used by Fibre Channel for the host bus adapter (HBA) on the server node side and the WWN/port number of channel adapters (CAs) on the storage side is combined in a zone unit, and access from ports other than the port defined for the zone are restricted.

Storage Host Affinity

Storage vendors provide storage host affinity. The storage side recognizes the WWPN of the HBA on the server node side in order to restrict access. Associations of WWPNs of HBAs with storage areas (AffinityGroup/Zone) can also be set.
The ETERNUS DX series, ETERNUS AF All-Flash Arrays, and ETERNUS DX200F refer to storage host affinity as "Set Affinity Group", "Set Host-Affinity Group".

Integrated Access Path Control

This software integrates and manages these functions to facilitate definition of settings that make use of the characteristics of SAN security and each function.

It controls access paths according to the functions and settings of individual devices.

Access Path in VMware Environment

This software does not support access path management for VM guests because it does not support HBA management.

In environments other than the VMware vSphere Virtual Volumes environment, if the access path environment modification (setting up, deleting and inheriting) is executed for the VM host, reboot the VM host or rescan the Storage Adapters from VMware vCenter Server or VMware vSphere Client.

For access path management in a VMware vSphere Virtual Volumes environment, refer to "VVOL Access Path Management" in the Storage Cruiser / AdvancedCopy Manager Operation Guide for VMware vSphere Virtual Volumes.

Note

These are the following notes during a time when the host group and the CA port group of the ETERNUS DX series (excluding the ETERNUS DX60 S2), ETERNUS AF All-Flash Arrays, and ETERNUS DX200F are used:

  • There is no need to be aware of the host group or CA port group for this product. The host group and CA port group are not displayed in the Web Console screen or command execution results for this product.

  • Host affinities created with specifying the host group or CA port group are displayed as access path information on Web Console.

  • Host affinities with an access path created using the access path settings for this product are displayed on ETERNUS Web GUI.
However, the relevant host affinity host group and CA group columns is "-".

  • Hosts with an access path deleted using the access path deletion operation for this product is deleted from the host group but this does not affect behavior.

  • When the host registered in a host group by deleting the relevant host does not exist, it is deleted from the relevant host group but this does not affect behavior.
