This section describes the hardware required to back up and restore file systems, and also describes how to back up and restore them in the GFS Shared File System.
Required hardware
A tape unit or hard disk unit is used to back up the GFS Shared File System.
Backing-up and restoring procedure
The GFS Shared File System backs up and restores file systems with the following methods:
Backing up and restoring the entire file system: dd(1)
Backing up and restoring the file system on a file basis: cpio(1L) or tar(1)
If the GFS Shared File System consists of multiple partitions, backing-up and restoring should be done on a partition basis. If tape devices and hard disk devices are configured, considered for a load distribution control of assigning I/O transactions, backing-up and restoring tasks can be distributed on all the nodes, and this will reduce the time required to back up and restore each partition.
