The management scope varies depending on the resources used by the configured physical server or virtual machine.
After linking with L-Servers, resources such as servers, virtual machines, or disks can be operated using the L-Servers.
Depending on the resources which can be operated, L-Servers are referred to differently as follows:
L-Server for Server Operation
Refers to L-Servers that operate only servers.
For Physical Servers
This applies when using the hardware listed in "18.3.1 Manageable Hardware".
For Virtual Machines
This applies when using a physical server and when using server virtualization software.
The hardware listed in "18.3.1 Manageable Hardware" and "18.3.3 Manageable Storage"
The server virtualization software described in "18.3.4 When Using Server Virtualization Software"
L-Server for Server/Storage Operation
Refers to L-Servers that operate servers and disks.
For Physical Servers
When linking a configured physical server to a physical L-Server, only "L-Server for Server Operation" is supported. "L-Server for Server/Storage Operation" cannot be created.
For Virtual Machines
This applies when using a physical server and when using server virtualization software.
The hardware listed in "18.3.1 Manageable Hardware" and "18.3.3 Manageable Storage"
The server virtualization software described in "18.3.4 When Using Server Virtualization Software"
[Solaris Zones (Solaris 10)] [OVM for SPARC]
L-Servers linked with a virtual machine on a VM host not managed with server management software only support "L-Server for Server Operation".
L-Server for Network Operation
Refers to L-Servers that operate only network.
[VMware]
E1000
VMXNET3
When resources which use adapter types other than those listed above are connected, they will not be managed by Resource Orchestrator.
Note
When disk and NIC information is successfully obtained from the configured physical server or virtual machine, that information is displayed. The output information for NICs differs depending on the L-Server type.
For Physical L-Servers
MAC address
IP address (only for admin LAN)
For Virtual L-Servers
MAC address (Media Access Control address)
IP address
There are preconditions for displaying IP addresses.
For details, refer to "18.4.1 Preparations".
When admin server has been configured on a virtual machine, do not link that virtual machine to an L-Server.
Configured physical servers with UMC enabled cannot be correctly linked with L-Servers. Disable UMC before performing server registration.
