5.1 Starting the Device Information Collection Tool

If individual device identification is performed by the administrator, it is necessary to request the administrator to register the device information, in cases such as when using a new device in the department.

The device information collection tool outputs to a file the information required for the administrator to record the device information in the system.

The device information collection tool installation procedure, startup method, and window items are described below.

Installation procedure

  1. Obtain the device information collection tool from the administrator.

  2. Save the device information collection tool (fsw01ejj.exe) to any folder.

    If the configuration file (fsw01ejj.ini) has also been provided, save it to the same folder as the tool.

    The configuration file may not be provided, depending on the system setup.

How to start the device information collection tool

Double-click the tool file.

The Device Information Collection Tool window will be displayed.

Window items

The items of the Device Information Collection Tool window are described below.

Item

Description

Devices

List of devices attached to the PC.

Clicking a column heading sorts the list by the values in that column.

Display items

Date

Date and time of device reading.

Display format: yyyy/mm/dd hh:mm:ss

Drive name

Drive letter assigned to the USB device, from A: to Z:.

For portable devices and imaging devices, a blank will be displayed.

Device type (Drive type)

For devices to which a drive letter was assigned, "Removable" or "DVD/CD" will be displayed.

For portable devices and imaging devices, "WPD" (Windows Portable Device) will be displayed.

For PC cards, "PC card" will be displayed.

Name

Value displayed in Device Manager immediately after device reading

This item can be edited.

Up to 80 halfwidth (40 fullwidth) characters can be entered. The characters below cannot be entered:

  • Control code

  • Halfwidth or fullwidth space only (if a halfwidth or fullwidth space is set at the beginning or end, the space will be deleted.)

This field must be entered.

Notes

Displayed as blank immediately after device reading.

This item can be edited.

Up to 128 halfwidth (64 fullwidth) characters can be entered. The characters below cannot be entered:

  • Control code

Manufacturer ID

Manufacturer ID obtained from the device, in hexadecimal notation.

If the device is a PC card, this will be blank.

Product ID

Product ID obtained from the device, in hexadecimal notation.

For PC cards, this will be blank.

Device name

Name obtained from the device.

Internal serial number/hardware ID

Internal serial number/hardware ID obtained from the device.

For devices without an internal serial number or hardware ID, this will be blank.

Recognize device again

Obtains device information and updates Devices.

If device information is already displayed in Devices, the information of the device connected to the PC will be added.

Device Information CSV output

Outputs device information displayed in Devices to a CSV file.

Delete

Deletes device information of items selected in Devices.

Note

Starting the device information collection tool

  • Administrator privileges are not required.

  • Multiple instances of the device information collection tool cannot be started within the same session.
