The upper limit of Tier pools managed by the Automated Storage Tiering is as follows.
Also, "total capacity of Tier pools" represents logical capacity of Tier pools.
The upper limit of total value of total capacity and maximum number of Tier pools creatable per device is equal to the maximum capacity and maximum number of Flexible Tier pools for the ETERNUS Disk storage system used.
For details, refer to the manual for the ETERNUS Disk storage system used.
The maximum is 48 PB regardless of the number of managed storage devices.
The value 2 PB is set by default, but it can be expanded up to 48 PB.
If you expand the value, you must add the memory capacity to the install target server according to the evaluated value of the memory size that is used by Automated Storage Tiering.
The evaluated value of the memory size that is used by Automated Storage Tiering can be calculated with the following formula according to the used capacity and the chunk size coefficient of each Tier pool that is managed by ETERNUS SF Manager.
Evaluated value = [Used capacity of Tier pool #1] * [Chunk size coefficient of Tier pool #1] + [Used capacity of Tier pool #2] * [Chunk size coefficient of Tier pool #2] : + [Used capacity of Tier pool #n] * [Chunk size coefficient of Tier pool #n]
The chunk size coefficient of a Tier pool Tier is as follows.
Storage Device | Coefficient | Remarks |
---|---|---|
ETERNUS DX S4 series (excluding DX60 S4) | 8 | On Web Console, "21MB" is displayed as the chunk size of a Tier pool. |
4 | On Web Console, "42MB" is displayed as the chunk size of a Tier pool. | |
2 | On Web Console, "84MB" is displayed as the chunk size of a Tier pool. | |
1 | On Web Console, "168MB" is displayed as the chunk size of a Tier pool. | |
ETERNUS DX S3 series (excluding DX60 S3) | 8 | For storage devices whose firmware version is older than V10L70, the coefficient is fixed to 8. On Web Console, a hyphen (-) is displayed as the chunk size of a Tier pool. For storage devices whose firmware version is V10L70 or later, "21MB" is displayed as the chunk size of a Tier pool on Web Console. |
ETERNUS DX S2 series (excluding DX60 S2) | 8 | Fixed for all models. |
Based on the calculated evaluated value, add the memory capacity shown in the following table to the memory capacity that is described in "2.2.5.2 Required Memory for Operation".
Calculated Evaluated Value | Memory Capacity That Must Be Added |
---|---|
Less than 16 | 0.5 GB |
16 or more, but less than 24 | 1.1 GB |
24 or more, but less than 32 | 1.7 GB |
32 or more, but less than 40 | 2.3 GB |
40 or more | 2.9 GB |
If the evaluated value of the memory size that is used by Automated Storage Tiering is larger than 16, you must modify the Automated Storage Tiering configuration file and expand the maximum memory capacity used for Automated Storage Tiering. Refer to "Appendix K Customizing Automated Storage Tiering Configuration File" for the procedure to customize the Automated Storage Tiering configuration file.
