In Oracle VM Server for SPARC environments, if an error occurs in the control domain, virtual in- and output are suspended, and any applications in guest domains cannot run anymore.
PRIMECLUSTER applied to the control domain monitors below errors that cause applications in guest domains to stop.
OS failure in the control domain
Hardware (network/shared disks and their transmission paths) failure in the control domain
Error of the guest domain status (displayed by ldm list-domain)
When such an error occurs, the guest domains in the standby system are booted, thus securing a highly reliable guest domain environment.
Note
PRIMECLUSTER monitors and controls guest domains from control domain. It does not monitor inside guest domains, including operating systems and applications in guest domains.
For details on statuses that are monitored by PRIMECLUSTER, please refer to "G.2.2 Supported Monitoring Functions". Also note that there are a number of precautions on operating cluster systems in Oracle VM Server for SPARC environments. For details, please refer to "G.4 Precautions on Using Cluster Systems in Oracle VM Server for SPARC Environments".
