This process can be carried out using either Web Console or stgxfwcmsetdev command.

Device information on a Managed Server must first be stored in the repository.
The time taken to add new devices is in proportion to the total number of devices defined in the selected Managed Server. For this reason, if a large number of devices have been defined, execute the process only when the CPU load on the system is low. As a guide, each operation takes about 0.5 seconds per device (ie, partition) with no load.
No information will be obtained for a volume group is inactive when the operation is executed. When a backup is in progress a volume group which is registered as a backup volume will become inactive, so it would not be detected by this operation. Do not issue an instruction to delete a volume in use.
