C.10.3 Registering Resources in Resource Pools

This chapter explains the registration of resources to resource pools.

For details on the resources that require registration, refer to "Chapter 12 Registering Resources to the Global Pool".

Use the following procedure to register a resource to a resource pool:

  1. Register VM Host Resources

    1. In the ROR console orchestration tree, right-click the target VM pool, and select [Register Resources] from the popup menu.

The [Register Resources] dialog is displayed.

    2. Select the VM host to register.

    3. Click <OK>.

For details, refer to "14.1 VM Host Resources" in the "User's Guide for Infrastructure Administrators (Resource Management) CE".

  2. Register Storage Resources

Register the virtual storage resources used when creating virtual L-Servers in the resource pool.

For details, refer to "14.5 Storage Resources" in the "User's Guide for Infrastructure Administrators (Resource Management) CE".

    Point

    • Register storage repositories in which the image resources used for L-Server creation are stored as virtual storage resources.

    • When registering multiple storage repositories accessible from VM hosts in server pools of Oracle VM Manager, it is recommended to register them in the same storage pool. It is recommended to register storage repositories shared with multiple server pools in Oracle VM Manager in the global pool.

    • Perform configuration so that the virtual storage registered in the storage pool can be accessed from all VM hosts registered in the tenant.

The provisioning attributes of disk resources which are allocated during L-Server creation are as follows. However, the provisioning attributes are not displayed on the window.

    • When automatically creating disk resources from virtual storage resources registered in a storage pool with Thin Provisioning attributes set, set the thin format and allocate the disk resources to a virtual L-Server.

    • When automatically creating disk resources from virtual storage resources registered in a storage pool without Thin Provisioning attributes set, set the thick format and allocate the disk resources to a virtual L-Server.

For how to set Thin Provisioning attributes for a storage pool, refer to "20.2 Creating" in the "User's Guide for Infrastructure Administrators (Resource Management) CE".

  3. Register Network Resources

  4. Register Network Device Resources

  5. Create templates as virtual cloning images for use in Resource Orchestrator

Create a template with an OS installed. Perform the following procedure:

    1. Create a new VM guest

    2. Install an OS on the VM guest created in step a.

    3. When there is a Paravirtual (PV) Driver, install it

    4. Create a template from the created VM guest

  6. Register Virtual Image Resources

Register the virtual image resources used when creating virtual L-Servers in the resource pool.

For details, refer to "14.7.1 Virtual Image Resources" in the "User's Guide for Infrastructure Administrators (Resource Management) CE".
