The software parameter settings function is used to set up parameters for the software on an L-Platform when the L-Platform is deployed using ServerView Resource Orchestrator. Automating software parameter settings reduces the workload for infrastructure administrators and tenant administrators. Moreover, parameter information for multiple software programs can be defined for cloning images, reducing both the number of cloning images and the cost of managing them. Furthermore, software parameter information that has been defined for different L-Server usages can be automatically assigned when L-Platforms are deployed, so that tenant users can use L-Servers immediately.
The software parameter settings function is provided as an additional function for ServerView Resource Orchestrator. In order to enable this function, the settings for ServerView Resource Orchestrator must be changed.
Also, to create cloning images, a procedure specific to this function must be followed. The rest of this section explains this additional function for ServerView Resource Orchestrator, and the procedures for using this function.
L-Platform management
In order to assign software parameters when L-Platforms are deployed, a function is added to the ROR console as part of L-Platform management.
Selecting the values for the parameters to be assigned
If an application to use an L-Platform is submitted using the L-Platform tab, the values of the parameters can be selected using the Reconfigure page. The parameter values and options can be defined using L-Platform templates.
Setting up parameters when L-Platforms are deployed
When an application to use an L-Platform is submitted using the L-Platform tab, the parameters for the software on the L-Servers that are deployed as part of the L-Platform are assigned. At this point, the admin server communicates to the L-Servers that have been deployed in order to assign the parameters for the software.
L-Platform template management
The software parameters and the values set for these parameters are defined as part of the L-Platform template. To do this, a function is added to the ROR console and commands as part of L-Platform template management.
The following section explains the L-Platform templates associated with the software parameter settings function.
Software setup information
It is possible to define a list of the parameters that can be set for the software, as well as the method for setting these parameters. However, software setup information only defines the parameters. This means that it must be associated with the corresponding software information. For some middleware, the associations between software setup information and software information have been registered.
Parameter information
For parameters defined by software setup information, the values to be set can be defined. To specify parameter values using the GUI, select values from the combo boxes. Parameter information defines one of these options.
Template information
Template information defines the configuration of the L-Platform, such as the network devices, L-Servers and disks. Within the template information, options for the values to be set for software parameters can also be defined. The values to be set for parameters are specified using parameter information. Parameter values on the screen are selected using combo boxes. These options can be defined.
The following diagram shows the mutual relationships between the various types of information that make up an L-Platform template.
Creating cloning images
To create cloning images, the following procedure specific to this function must be followed:
Installing an agent on the L-Servers
To set parameters for software, it is necessary to communicate from the admin server to the L-Servers that have been deployed. This means that a Systemwalker Software Configuration Manager agent must be installed on L-Servers.
Installing the middleware for which software information has been registered
The middleware for which software information has been registered must be installed in accordance with the installation procedure. If the middleware is installed using this procedure, the middleware will run correctly after it is deployed. For middleware that will be affected if the IP address or host name of the operating system is changed, use the software parameter settings function to assign the new IP address or host name after deployment.
