1.2 Starting the AdvancedCopy Manager GUI Client

To start the AdvancedCopy Manager GUI Client, from the Windows [Start] menu, select [All programs] > [AdvancedCopy Manager] > [GUI Client]. The [Login] dialog box is displayed and prompts the user for the following details:

  1. Specify a Storage Management Server host name or IP address or select a Storage Management Server host name or IP address from the server dropdown combo box.

  2. Enter the Port number used to connect to the Storage Management Server.

  3. Enter a valid AdvancedCopy Manager user name and password.

  4. Use the UNIX root or Windows startup account if no AdvancedCopy Manager user name has been registered.

  5. Click [Login] to start the GUI Client.

The user's login details (Server, Port, User name) as specified in the [Login] dialog box can be saved by enabling the [Login automatically in future] option. The system will then log in automatically using the saved details on subsequent attempts.

If you have more than one Storage Management Server, the login details are saved for each Storage Management Server.

The [Login automatically at startup] option can be disabled as follows:

  1. Open the [Window] pull-down menu on the main menu bar and select [Preferences] to open the [Preferences] dialog box.

  2. Select [General] to reveal the [Login automatically at startup] check box and disable it.

The Welcome topic is displayed once the user is authenticated. Click an icon on the "Welcome" topic to refer to information you wish to view. Click the Workbench icon on the top right side of the window to proceed to use AdvancedCopy Manager.

The main application perspective is displayed.

  3. Select the Site icon in the Navigation tab and click the symbol to view all registered Storage Servers at the site.

  4. Select any Storage Server icon and click the symbol again to view all groups and elements associated with that Storage Server.

  5. Progressively click a sub-node (Devices, Replication Groups, Backups) and click the symbol to reveal all subordinate elements associated with each one.

Device error or unknown devices detected upon opening the view will be denoted by the symbol located in the top right corner of the device icon.
