4.2.2 Selecting a backup source

The backup/restoration unit of the AIX AdvancedCopy Manager is a physical disk (LU: Logical Unit). But in the case of the physical disk which constitutes LVM (Logical Volume Manager), it is managed and operated according to the volume group. The disk which is managed and operated is called a transaction volume.

A transaction volume to be backed up must reside on the ETERNUS disk storage systems.

For the supported units, refer to "1.5 Managing a Device on AdvancedCopy Manager".

For information on setting up a transaction volume, see "4.4.7 Setting the operation type for a device".

Note

  • Do not back up the systems disk or the disk on which AdvancedCopy Manager is installed.

  • The following should be noted when using a volume group as operating volume:

    • Do not register two or more physical disks into one volume group.

  • Refer to the "10.1.1 General notes" for points to consider when deciding on a candidate volume for backup. Some points to consider include but may not be limited to:
