ETERNUS SFAdvancedCopy Manager 14.0 Operator's Guide forTape Server Option

13.3.2 Changing the encryption function after operation

If encryption enabled/disabled status is changed for tape volumes in a storage pool, then the status will be reflected only on empty tape volumes. As a result, if the user switches to encrypted tape backup operations after the start of the backup, then the non-encrypted data from before the switch will remain in history, without encryption. There is no method provided to perform batch conversion of non-encrypted data managed by AdvancedCopy Manager to G4 encrypted data before switching to encrypted operation

Backups will write non-encrypted data to non-encrypted tapes even if encryption has been enabled after operations. If you do not wish that, then set the tape access mode to "ReadOnly" -encrypted data will then be backed up to new empty tape volumes.

Similarly, access mode of encrypted tapes must be set to "ReadOnly" if you do not want encrypted data to be backed up after disabling the feature.
