ETERNUS SFAdvancedCopy Manager 14.0 Operator's Guide

4.2.2 Selecting a backup source

AdvancedCopy Manager backs up data in units of slices. A slices that stores work data is called a transaction volume.

A transaction volume to be backed up must reside on the Fujitsu ETERNUS storage system.

For the supported units, refer to "1.5 Managing a Device on AdvancedCopy Manager".

For information on setting up a transaction volume, see "4.4.7 Setting the operation type for a device".

Note

Do not back up the systems disk or slices on which AdvancedCopy Manager is installed.

Note

Slices must be allocated for transaction volumes in the following manner:

  • Create slices so that no VTOC is created.

  • No slice area may be duplicated on the same disk.

Note

For any slice that defines an entire volume, do not register it as a transaction volume.

Note

No file system of SynfinityFILE consisting of multiple slices and no Global File Services local file systems can be processed.
When backing up or restoring a file system of SynfinityFILE consisting of multiple slices or a Global File Services local file system, unmount the multiple slices at the same time.

Note

Refer to the "11.1.1 General notes" for points to consider when deciding on a candidate volume for backup. Some points to consider include but may not be limited to:

  • Backup and Replication Exclusions

  • Slice containing VTOC
