Appendix B Messages |
This section describes command messages and explains what to do in response to the messages.
Command messages are output to the standard output and to the standard error output. (When the command prompt is used to execute commands, messages of the commands are displayed in the command prompt window.) Some messages are also output to the Windows event log.
The event log can be viewed in Windows Event Viewer.
To open Event Viewer, select [start]-[Control Panel]-[Administrative Tools]-[Event Viewer].
The command message output formats vary depending on the output destinations.
command is the command name, number is the message number, severity is the severity level, and message is message text.

Italic texts in the messages denote variables and vary depending on the situations where the messages are output. The following table shows variables and the descriptions.

Command messages are categorized into the following four types listed from higher to lower severity.

This type of message is output to explain the cause of the failure when the command ends abnormally. |

WARNING |
This type of message is output to give warning when an error that does not cause the command to end abnormally was detected. |

INFO |
This type of message is output to provide information about command activities. |
65XXX |
HELP |
This type of message is output to provide helpful information explaining corrective actions for proper command use. Generally, the command syntax is displayed. |
