This section shows how each of the elements that make up definition statements is arranged.

The following table shows the symbols used with the entry format, and their meanings.

Symbol

Meaning

Parts that branch off under the line indicate elements that can be omitted.
Example:

Parts that branch off in parallel above and below indicate that one of the two blocks should be selected.
Example:

Lines with arrows that reach back above the line indicate blocks that can be repeated.
Example:

Enclosure in a dotted rectangle represents a collection of multiple syntax diagram elements.

Indicates the completion of the syntax diagram.
