12.4.4 Individualized meta-cache management

The GFS Shared File System constructs its cache management of meta-data in an individualized manner. Many conventional file systems manage meta-data in a uniform manner. However, the GFS Shared File System provides individualized management of i-node, directory block, and indirect block areas on disks that takes into consideration the characteristics of the access, improving the cache-hit ratio and reducing resources used.
