Outline of This Product

The Machine Administration software monitors the status of the main unit hardware, reports status changes, and supports failure recovery (hereinafter, the Machine Administration software is referred to as Machine Administration). Using this software allows users to monitor the status of the main unit hardware with ease, and perform easier recovery from failures.

Outline of This Manual

This manual describes the functions of Machine Administration and how to operate them.

Purpose

The purpose of this manual is to enable users to monitor the status of the main unit hardware and recover from failures with Machine Administration.

Intended Readers

This manual is intended for system administrators and customer engineers responsible for monitoring the status of the main unit hardware and recovering from failures.

Prerequisite Knowledge

This manual is intended for readers who have basic knowledge of the following:

UNIX

Organization

This manual has five chapters and two appendixes. Chapters 1, 2, 4, 5, and the appendixes contain information that is common to all models.

Accordingly, these chapters and appendixes contain information not only on the model you are using but also on other models as well.

Chapter 3 contains model-specific information on how to start up models and how to operate them, respectively. For detailed explanations specific to your model, please refer to the corresponding parts in this chapter.

Notation for date and time
In this manual, the notation shown in the table below is used to represent date and time.

Notation	Description
yyyymmdd	yyyy represents the year, mm represents the month, and dd represents the day.
HHMMSS	HH represents the hour, MM represents the minutes, and SS represents the seconds.
