Users can name the following objects:
The object name can contain a maximum of 32 alphanumeric characters, including the minus sign (-) and the underscore character (_). The object name cannot start with the minus sign (-) or the underscore character (_). Be sure to assign an alphanumeric character to the first character in the object name.
Class names must be unique within the entire cluster system and an attempt to create two or more classes with the same name will result in an error.
The other object names are unique within the class and an attempt to create more than one object with the same name in a class will result in an error.
GDS assigns slice names by combining the names of disks, groups, and volumes to which the slices belong. The slice naming conventions are as follows.
disk_name.volume_name
lower_level_group_name.volume_name
the_highest_level_stripe_group_name.volume_name
the_highest_level_concatenation_group_name.volume_name
active_disk_name.volume_name
single_disk_name.volume_name
Thus all object names can be identified uniquely within the entire cluster system by the combinations of the class names and the object names.
